I go for the M3 if price isn't that much difference.

Not much to go on.
If it is just a simple yes/no, then the answer is Yes.
See this thread for the differences between a 335is and 335i/M kit: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...1&postcount=11 If there are factors such as cost, then the M3 is not the way to go. With just a few options an M3 is easily 10k more and up, harder to get good deals on an M3 subjectively, you have to pay gas guzzer tax which jumps that figure, you pay $500 more a year in gas, and your insurance is higher. Assuming that you don't want an M3 and don't know why people brought it up, then read my post above for the difference. If your not interested in the performance bits, M kit, or DCT, then go with a loaded 335i. Ahh I noticed this is another Canadian. In that case an M3 would be in the upper $80+k range. The 335is however seems to be garnering a premium in Canada where in the U.S. its not so it might cost you $60-70k. Last edited by KevinJ; 03-20-2011 at 10:41 PM.. |

I see you already have a 335 M sport? for me I'd skip the 335is and go with something different as some pointed out here, the M3 or even a Cayman/Boxster

Different cars in terms of practicality, I mean the 335is and Cayman...
Coming from 2009 M-sport however you won't notice a big difference with 335is. Better exhaust note, yes... but that's an easy mod to do. If you actually enjoyed your m sport, not interested in trying some-thing new and going to get a new ride any-ways then IS might be the right car for you. |

335is dyno numbers prove otherwise.
The Cayman is highly configurable and very easy to add tens of thousands on the price to far exceed a 335is. Also if you need practicality, the 3 series coupe has usable back seats where the Cayman does not.

First of all you already have a 335i, why get the "is" when there isn't much difference. More logical upgrade would be the M3.
The 335is is a 335i with mods.

Kinda agree
I'm going from a E46 to a 335is. I think if I was driving a 335i for a few years, I would be eyeing the M3. But if I didn't want M3 bling but wanted a factory modded 335i, I would go for the 335is.
First of all the conversations assumes that M3 money is not an issue since the original question was 335is Y or N. Personally I could not justify going above the price of a 335is.... Do I really need an M3. |

If you plan to keep car for a while, get 335is.
M3 will cost you alot for maintenence if you want to keep it like 10 years.

The 335is is an incredible car. The comparison numbers on paper don't do it justice. All the haters of the "is" are the people that haven't had good seat time in it (and yes, i've driven JB3 N54's). The power is a considerable jump over the regular 335i. Not just because of the extra torque but it's really the strengthened engine mounts. the 335is really puts the power to the ground.
And of course the noise is AMAZING. So my suggestion is YES. -DK |
