Procede n55 Dyno testing
From testing today...
CF: 1.05 2011 135, 7DCT Mods: Procede v5 3-21, Vishnu DP, Vishnu Charge pipe, muffler shop cat-back with dual 2.5" magnaflow mufflers, tightened wastegate actuator 91oct CF: 1.05 Tested in 5th gear (6mt and 7at should dyno in 4th gear) Graphs represent the following settings: 15psi, 50%IC 14psi, 50%IC 12psi, 50%IC Stock Tune Observations: -Due to turbo capacity limitations, all tuned settings make about the same power/boost above 5500rpm. So different boost settings just effect midrange and low end power/boost. The turbo is so flow limited that it will not support more than 14psi at 5000rpm. And by 6000rpm, it's down to just under 12psi. Perhaps upgrading the FMIC will reduce some pressure loss and increase top end boost/power. We will be installing an upgraded FMIC next week and will re-test. -We found that slightly tightening the wastegate actuator helped the turbo maintain slightly more top end boost. Not a lot. Just a little (0.5-1psi) This mod is easy to do when installing a downpipe. All you need is a 10mm wrench. Shortening the wastegate rod no more than 1/4 of an inch. If you shorten it too much, you will experience overboost in the 3700-4000rpm. -The DME refuses to let the car run beyond 6500rpm when dyno testing in 5th gear. This is because it throws a 13001 code for "Poor Road Surface" due to the fact that the front wheels aren't spinning along with the rears. Funny. -Here's a datalog of the 15psi run: I'll post a "how to dyno your n55" once i finish writing it. There are a few unique issues with this platform. They are worth mentioning. Cheers shiv Last edited by OpenFlash; 03-25-2011 at 12:26 PM.. |

sucks for the n55 guys, it will be a miracle to break 400 on that stock turbo running race gas and meth.
Uncorrected this car didn't even break 340 right? |

So what kind of numbers are the n54's putting out with the same exact mods as Shiv's car on straight pump? I looked through the dyno thread and didn't see many n54 hp numbers that were significantly higher with the same bolt-ons using pump. Infact, the torque numbers on the above dyno looks to be the same or better than the n54 numbers with the same mods. Maybe I am missing something here? With that said, I do realize that with meth and/or race fuel the n54 is on an entirely different level.

I saw that 5,400rpm choke before I read what Shiv wrote, sucks! The midrange bump still is attractive though.
funny how BMW is only concerned with 'Poor Road Surface' after you reach well over 100mph

I suspect/hope the n55 will support up to 360-365whp when an upgraded intercooler is installed. Which is still 30-40whp shy of what a fully modded n54 will put down on a good day. But there is something very different about the way the n55 puts down the power. I'm not sure if it's entirely due to the 7DCT or the Valvetronic system but the n55 seems to be more responsive and faster than its numbers would indicate. Shiv |

By the looks of that Dyno, shouldn't n55 guys be shifting b4 6000 rpm?

Why? The dyno operator once told me that one should dyno a car in a gear that is closest to "direct" one in order to get the most accurate results. 5th gear of 6MT has 1:1 ratio, if I remember correctly.

Nothing new with German cars. Some MBs require a whole song and dance before allowing it to be dynod. What's interesting is the "road speed quality" code that closes the throttle above 130mph when the front tires aren't spinning. Sounds like an anti-dyno code to me since I can't think of a scenario were that would happen on the street.

Atleast MB makes it easier. Right in the hidden menu you can select dynometer test and shut off limiters, traction control ETC ETC FTW |

Shiv, why 6MT should be dynoed in 4th gear?

Because 5th gear would result in 160+mph roller speed which is a bit sketchy. The run would also take a really long time which would heatsoak the engine a fair bit. The idea of dyno testing in a 1:1 gear ratio is meaningless these days. Far more important is picking a gear that doesn't result in excessive torque to the tire or excessive speed to the roller.

So what you're saying shiv is that you are going to make some firmware adjustments so that the 1300 code isn't tripped, correct? Lol
