Problem with summer tires?
I purchased my 328i xDrive (with Sport package, in case this is relevant to my question) in December. I had the dealer install my winter tires (on rims) prior to delivery, so I never drove the car on the OEM tires. Yesterday, I swapped out the winters for the summer tires. I am finding the handling "squirelly" (that is the best word I can come up with to describe it). The winter tires tracked perfectly over all surfaces (they were non RFT, in case it matters). The summer tires feel like there is a marble under the contact patch for each tire. I have checked the inflation pressures and they are spot on. I don't think the allignment is off because the car handled fine just prior to the tires being swapped.
Any thoughts/suggestions? In case it matters, the summer tires that came with the car are Bridgestone Potenza RE051. |

Could also be temperature related. I assume you live in the Toronto area, and I know the temperatures haven't been all that warm lately. Generally summer tires have reduced grip below 7C.

Thanks for the responses. Some of what I am perceiving is definitely tramlining, but I still feel like the steering gets very light at times (like there is a marble under the tire is the best way I can describe it). This never happened with my winter tires.
And yes, I am in the GTA. I guess that means I jumped the gun on installing my summer tires. |

Tire compounds and tread design will play a large factor in tramlining and overall grip. What pressures do you have tires set at the moment?
