335d M sport - brakes
Good evening all,
Just a quick question, what brakes are on the 335d M, are they the same as the BMW performance brake kit? I have asked my dealer to quote me a set of BMW performance brakes and he ensures me that the car already has them. The performance brakes appear to be 4 or 6 pot on slotted discs, definitely not what it looks like on my motor? Many thanks |

Nope, 335d brakes are not BMW Performance brakes.
Here's the performance brake kit on my 330d BMW will not fit the BBK to the 335d as it is not listed for it.

Weird isnt it?
Surely the same hub carriers/rotors/calipers as the 335i anyhow? "Computer says no" mentality again.

But I guess they are playing safe, supplying parts for cars that they weren't designed for etc etc yadda yadda

Cheers guys, a bit of a shame as the brakes are the only complaint i have with the car, I have been advised that better pads might help. Would love a BIg brake kit but don't want any troubles with the warranty and servicing.

The BMW BBK actually uses smaller discs than the standard 335d setup. Suprised you're having trouble with them as they are more than adequate unless you are a real loon, like Carlos!

I had Brembo 4 pots on my previous motor (330bhp Gti) and they were just a lot sharper, however I am getting used to the 335d brakes. They seem to be more gradual but they do get more intensive the further you press ( I know this maybe b@@dy obvious but other cars I have had from about 1/4 of the pedal force you didn't really get much more progressive braking just a lockup). So it might just be a learning experience.
Are the 335d single Pots? Thanks for all the advice and the rolling road looks like a good idea! Berttie |

Yes big single pots front and rear.
If you overhaul them they might surprise you. Mine definatley are firm and easy to modulate. I have EBC discs and yellowstuff pads which are fairly recent, and Motul RBF600 fluid thats fresh. I would suggest changing the brake fluid as it sounds past its best. That may make a huge improvement, if not some new pads will. The oem calipers are pretty strong, and pretty large. IKWYM about the Brembos - had them on my R26 but they were also crap until a good overhaul and new pads. I guess the previous owner never used them enough and they just went to shit.

They bite from cold slightly better than oem, and after a couple of applications they get stonger. This is the new compound and coated with a break-in material to condition the discs without drama. Had no squeeling once they were bedded in after 200miles or so, and new it was only VERY slight at light pedal braking. Bought from Balance Motorsport - nice professional guys. I use them a fair bit. What are the performance brakes like compared to the ones on my 330i? Like the look of them but would like some other advantages. I'm guessing the discs/pads are quite expensive to replace?
