335i vacuum tanks

today i noticed my friends engine bay was different from mines, he didn't have the 2 vacuum tanks.

he says his car is fine, is having these important or not.
what is the vacuum's tank main purpose? turbo psi boost control?

Probably for brakes

i believe the waste gates are vacuum actuated on this motor.... so yes, those vac reservoir tanks probably are important..

why did he remove them?

does he have a 335? or a 330/328? non turbo's don't have those canisters
