N55 | Berk Technology 4" Downpipes w/ DYNO
Downpipes, downpipes and downpipes for the N55.
Catless DP give you big gains. How? because you're removing the 2 biggest restrictions - cat number 1 and cat number 2, all in one shot. Not for the faint at heart, but for pure performance enthusiast. I love catless DP, the bimmer sounds and feels amazing!!! Yes you will smell fumes if you're idle in one spot with the windows down. My friend would complain when idle'n at in-n-out, his nose is pretty sensitive - isn't that right PAK? Driving, you just hear pure performance and the with the Berk DP I'm getting a monsterous sound and power throughout the powerband. No joke. When approached by Berk, I had some reserves of a 4" DP on the N55... Let me rephrase that and say that 4-6 months ago I had a conversation with Bryan bout making a DP for the N55. He said they're in the process and the wait began. Time had lapse and a few DP came into the market. It wasn't until recently that they we're ready to test fit one. And when I got the phone call from Berk, I was very happy to test their N55 DP. Bryan over at Berk explain'd their fabrication process and reasons for the welds and a 4"dp. There are details, that i'll let Bryan chime in and explain. I feel very confident with Berk, knowing they are a company known for track'n. And with their proven 1er it was a no brain'r for me. They beat the living chit out of that 1er. And for good reasons. They're quality control is amazing - all taken care of in house in a mid sized warehouse located in Southern California. A very humble company striving to make a mark in the bmw community and they're doing a good job at it. BERK's 1er. now onto the picts and dyno. the 4" DP - my e90 lifted and exposed unerneth Bryan took care of install'n the DP and dyno'n at EAS. Big Thank you to EAS with their new Dynojet. Previous I had my 19 LMs on and had some problems with my rear wheels. The stockers went back on. SPECS: 335 N55 6MT 18 stock wheels 91 OCT pump gas Vanguard Exhaust Stock intake DYNO BASE RUNS DYNO DP RUNS DYNO COMPARE you can see the runs compare stock to BERK's DP power throughout the bandwidth and you feel it. if u don't know how to butt dyno - you'll know it with this mod. just hightlight'd the gains throughout the curve. DYNO COMPARE 2 At the end of the day i'm very happy with my current setup. I add'd the INJEN Intake back on and been running with that setup and love it. I may keep my stockers on for awhile. The performance gains are amazing - Well worth the price for HP gains, very torque'e and great, great sound. It's night and day with the cats off. I have no reserves against Berk's 4" downpipe. Guys i'm a happy camper. It's been about a week that I've had it, and it's consistent - i luv going wot on 2nd, and 3rd, and 4th, and 5th. power throughout. To mention, yes you'll get a SES light - that's a given. if u got software you can turn that off. Can tool, Procede. No spacers were used, or will be for the O2 sensors. i'm happy with this setup.

Dude, thank you for posting. Can you please throw up a video of engine sound with intake & DP? To my knowledge, nobody has yet and I bet it sounds like a beast..

Interesting... and congrats on ur setup! I do love my catless setup as well. I'm intrigued at the TQ numbers though, it still seems as though the 3.5 eeks out more TQ. I know where only talking 9-10 ft lbs, but... still interesting. I believe the Vishnu max's out at 307 lbs (against stock) but it 4hp shy of the Berk (against stock)
Ref: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ight=vishnu+dp Either way, IMO, it's a fantastic mod. I'm real curious about ar's new catted dp... if that posts similar numbers to the catless versions out now, I may switch.

hey sorry for the newb question but i have a 335xi n55 and am currently running a jb3 on it with a drop in filter. I was interested in getting a DP for it but i just have a question concerning the SES light. I have the CAN tool (which i haven't used yet), would i have to clear codes with it every time i start the car up? or once cleared always cleared?

u know i'm making a video. that cold start is gnarly. i'm just happy to have a catless DP. i was feel'n sad and left out for awhile. i'm tell'n u remove those cats and amazing happens. If the smell gets to me, which it hasn't, i'll simply get a used N54 exhaust and slap that on - it has a set of cats on it.

put aside the end numbers on the dynos look at the curve and the in betweens. the torque numbers maybe higher but look at the curve where it spikes to that end number. like u said, love catless dp- and i'm on the same boat. different dynos will yield different numbers. even between dynojets. look'n at the numbers from base to mod'd, on the same dyno will tell you the gains.

Thanks Frankie for the dyno and the write up on the Berk Technology DP. For this to be real test of DP gain we need a true dyno chart of just a PURE STOCK car. Then one with a PURE STOCK car + Berk DP.... The dyno shows gains with an exhaust on the car which in my opinion should make more horsepower then shown?
My car made a litte less HP, more TQ but with no exhaust...just some food for thought. See if you can re dyno with just the DP only runs... |

1 mod at a time. Quote:
remember the stock exhaust on the n55 are catless - so no restrictions. the Vanguard does have a resonator. I believe the exhaust has minimal gains if any, just add'd sound. I understand stack'n power mods and dyno'n. that's why berk dyno'd with the exhaust on as base and then their DP. If and when i have time i'll swap back to stock exhaust and dyno just to see. I need to go back to EAS and dyno with the INJEN intake anyways. htt760, end of day cat'd dp restrict lots of power. and whatever dp u get it's going clear and open the passage way. is ur bimmer dct?

absolutely correct -
not to forgot my XI brother. -u know i wonder if an XI downpipe will go into the I. isn't the XI single cat on the DP, sloppy. if that's the case... Quote:
on the compare dyno chart 2. if u calculate it's 15/22 @ 3.6rpm, 21/25 @ 4.4rpm, 21/26 @ 6.5rpm. i just put electric tape over the ses light.
