Is amsoil oil any good?

Thinking about getting 5W-40 for track for the summer, was planning to buy Motul but saw some review online about Amsoil anyone know anything about it?

Motul

I'm planning to go with Motul X-cess 5W30 or 5W40. It is approved by BMW's LL-01

http://www.motul-canada.com/en/produ....shtml?panel=0

German Castrol 0w-30 or Mobil1 0w40 are also approved BMW LL-01. Make sure it says that on the bottle.

the BMW aprooved designation( crap ) it's beacause Amsoil didn't want to pay BMW to have their name in the aprooval list. There is a lot of crap in the corporate world.
Does that mean that AMSOIL oil is not good for BMW ?
if only everyone believes what corporations are saying.....

..... Your OM will tell you exactly what oil must be used to maintain your warranty and more importantly - provide the proper lubrication for your BMW engine. In the U.S. that is BMW approved LL-01 oils per the link below for gas engines from 2006 onward. Canada may be the same as the U.S. or same as ROW. Read and follow you OM to protect your engine and warranty.

For reference, NONE of the boutique oils like Amsoil, Redline, Royal Purple are BMW LL-01 or LL-04 certified oils .... and should not be used in your engine as they are not formulated to meet you engine's specific lubrication requirements, despite the advertising claims.

http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...ngineOils.aspx
+1, Canada is the same as US and to avoid risking voiding your warranty you must use BMW LL-01 certified oil

If you're not against using BMW oil, just take advantage of the Maxbimmer Maranello BMW discount and buy your oil from them.

or you can buy the German Castrol Synthetic at Canadian Tire when on sale, the Zero weight bottle that says made in Germany on the back. It also indicates that it meets the LL-01 spec, other Castrol does not and is made the USA.

Is Amsol a group 3 or group 4 synthetic?

Canadian Tire sometimes has German Castrol Syntec (0W30 and BMW LL-01) on sale for $6.99/litre. This oil appears to be well regarded even over the BMW branded oil and Mobil-1 0W40.

You also have to pay BMW to have your oil in the 'aprooved' list. If you don't pay you don't even have your oil tested. Why do 'dinan' products are ok in terms with warranty claims? Because Dinan had to pay millions to 'BMW' and in exchange they raised the prices for their BMW products.
Does that mean that all the other 'performance' parts and engine tunes are not good for BMW ?

I don't think they help towards BMW longevity and you also risk voiding your warranty.

At the end of the day it's your car and you can do and put into it anything you want. The issue is if you're planning to recommend it make sure you advise of consequences and risk(s) person needs to accept if it doesn't comply with BMW OM. That way at least the person has been advised and can make his own decision if the risks are acceptable to him.

If you think that BMW buys oils to tests them, to certify them, and "Aproove" them, and open the market to BMW line of cars for that oil manufacturer FOR FREE .... to each their own.
I said that "I"used Amsoil for the last 2 years ( 3 oil changes for 30k). I did not say its better than approved BMW oils.
F-ing scare tactics. You work for BMW or what?

He doesn't care what people put in their cars as he already stated it, he just want to make sure people make educational decision before they do it and what are possible consequences due to their action as it relates to their car warranty.

However base on your last two statements it comes across as you take offence to it.... so does that mean you work for Amsoil ?

I'm calling it quits on this one...it's not even worth it to go in to details
I'm just going to say this, out of thousands of oil manufacturer on this planet ( don't just look at what's available in this continent ); if you think that using anything else than what BMW says to use in your engine will damage it, I think it's a bit too much....
Castrol full synthetic and Mobil 0w 40 are not even 100% synthetic. By law, an oil to be called "full synthetic" it only has to be 30% synthetic. It has to say on the bottle that is 100% synthetics to claim that.... not too many oils claim that.... Belarus, I like your car, you seem to be a nice guy and I love your thread with the naked girls....let's leave it like that....

Why would anyone ever use anything other than what is recommended by BMW?

I have 125k on my car. Never used Castrol since I purchased the car at 50k. 2006 325i. I don't have leaks, engine noise ticks, broken bolts, valve cover or engine head and lifter replaced and I drive the car pretty hard. I change my oil every 8k. I used click 300 100% synthetic for 40k while I was in Toronto and Amsoil 100% synthetic since on the west coast( it's $14/l so I don't know which Amsoil you guys are talking about). I'm happy with my reliability performance so far and I'll leave it like that.
