I was informed to run my tyres pressures high to avoid this but it's still occurred on the rears. I have 19inch 225's on stock tyres. Surely I can't inflate them anymore that 39 front 44 rear?

Over-inflating the tyres will exacerbate the problem.

Start with the recommended pressure and then only adjust to compensate for load and handling. Inside edge wear on the rear is common on these cars mostly due to the negative camber settings. Unless you are running your car on the track, it is not necessary to have so much. Try to have it pulled out as much as you can. You might get it to -0.12 instead of the factory -0.18. The other thing to do is buy SYMMETRIC tires. These have the same tread across the entire tire and can be dismounted and switched inside for out so you can maximize your tire life.

Really? When I was reading up about the problem there were quite a few posts suggesting a slight over-inflation would help to alleviate (though not entirely resolve) the situation?

Ultimately I don't think there's any avoiding inner edge wear on these cars (unless you have that camber dialled out on the rear).

I've done approximately 14,000 miles on mine (tyres looked fairly new when I got the car on 6,000 miles) running my car at 3.2Bar on the rear and 2.7Bar on the front. After about 14,000 miles my tires look like this:

Make sure your replacements are AYZ then as the inner wear is supposed to be less bad.

Have you checked your wheels aren't cracked, I have the same but its down to the rear wheels being cracked and a los of pressure resulting in this type of wear.

It is nothing to do with the camber.

It is a function of the inflexible inner sidewall on the RFT.

After nearly erasing a full set of Falken tyres now, the wear is TOTALLY EVEN on the same geometry.

My first set of non RFT rears wore very badly on the inner edges in under 8k miles.

Got a new set fitted and also got it laser aligned - the wear is much much more even now.

Large toe in values kill tyres.

Camber wont do half so much damage.

I had awful inner edge wear on the stock geo with RFTs.
My boss has a new 320d coupe showing same dreadful wear patterns.

And all that I changed was the tyre type, had it realigned to double check and it was still bang in tolerance.

But 9k on and no inner edge wear on the same car and geo.

So long as its where it should be then yes, it worked for me.

Not confused. It stands to reason: if the tyre is over-inflated it is less flexible and if it has a propensity to run on load the inner edge due to excessive camber then over inflation will cause more wear on the inner edge rather than deflection of the tyre over a wider area.

I used the much cheaper Hunter laser alignment and was very impressed. They were out for toe and camber - car was much smoother and quieter after it was done. £60 well spent. KDS does a couple of other things but they didn't seem necessary in this instance.
The inner edge wear on my last set of rears was pretty severe. Near enough bald inners, I'd say at least 5mm tread on the outers.

The Hunter visuals (on a PC screen) exaggerate the issues so you can see it more easily - it looked like a large lorry had been dropped on the back of mine!

I had a hunter done at A&S Wheels (South Woodford) and they fucked it up by doing it for an E93, then doing it for an E92 but non-sport suspension. They finally got it right but that was after fucking it up twice and knocking out the locating spigots on the front top-mounts.

Not impressed.

I then had a F.O.C. (due some cock ups with bodywork) KDS done at Sytner Harold Wood where they let me watch the tech.

He did a much better job, actually loaded up the car and measured the ride heights etc.

I will contact Anneka and see how much she can arrange a KDS for. If the price is reasonable I will get it done (as long as I am allowed to watch). Failing that, I will find a better place for a Hunter, maybe Birds or something (though I understand they farm it out)...

I had inner wear on the 335d and was told by the dealer at my 18k service that I needed to spend £650 on two new rears.

I ran them 0.2bar over recommended and they lasted another 6k miles, with even wear.

i got those and so far so good regardign the wear....but i over inflate them by a few psi aswell...
