Nice, very helpful information. Which one are you thinking of going for? What does service exclusive plus entail?

Thanks for posting - this is useful information. I'm considering my options as well, since the one-year anniversary of my car is approaching in about a month.

According to BMW's website, the Service Inclusive Plus includes:
• Engine oil and oil filter change
• Service/replacement of air filters, microfilters and fuel filters
• Service/replacement of spark plugs and brake fluid
• Brake pads/discs front and rear
• Clutch (wear and tear)
• Windscreen wiper blades/rubbers as part of routine maintenance
• Vehicle check and standard services as set out in the BMW Service Booklet

Doing some quick research (these are dealer prices either from personal experience or from BMW Canada website):
• Engine oil and oil filter change costs about $130
• Brake pads/discs front and rear costs about $970 ($270 for front pads only; $216 for rear pads only)
• Clutch replacement costs about $978

I can't find how much dealers charge for the other items listed above. But the analysis that needs to be done is to add up the incremental service costs between the standard maintenance package expiration date to the Service Inclusive Plus expiration date (which would be dealer prices plus expected frequency) and compare it to the warranty costs provided by the OP. And to keep it simple, let's forget about the time value of money.

Since BMW "recommends" an oil change say every year, incremental engine oil and filter change cost will be $130 x 2 = $260 for 6 years or $390 for 7 years.

I'm assuming that in 120,000 to 140,000 km, our cars will probably need at least one new set of pads and rotors. I have about 22,000 clicks on my car so far and it's saying it needs new pads (front and rear) in about 60,000 km. So let's say by 140,000, you will probably need 1 set of pad replacement and 1 set of pad + rotor replacement. That would cost you $270 + $216 + $970 = $1,456. However, since these services are still condition based, if the computer thinks you don't need another set of pads until 160,000 after the 80,000 replacement, I'm guessing you are sh*t out of luck on that one. In other words, I don't think BMW will pay for another set of pads if the computer doesn't think you need a new set even though you've driven 60,000 km or more on them. However, I would be personally very surprised if a set of rotors can last more than 140,000 km.

As for the clutch, I really think this is anyone's guess. It really depends on how you drive. I've heard and seen clutches last over 200,000 km (this is on an old VW Golf) but I've also heard people replacing clutches at 80,000 km. So let's give BMW benefit of the doubt here and say our cars will need a clutch replacement by 140,000 km. That would be $978.

I know that BMW recommends brake fluid replacement every 2 years. I don't know how much dealers charge for a paid brake fluid service, but I assume it's around $150 (I know Honda dealers charge about $70, so I just approx. doubled it; not very scientific I know).

To sum up, then, based on limited information here and assuming a 7-year service period, we're looking at $390 + $1,456 + $978 + $150 = $2,974. I'm not sure about the cost and frequency of spark plug replacement and "vehicle check and standard services as set out in the BMW Service Booklet". But if you think about it, as long as it will cost you more than about $1,000 over the 3-year period (i.e. between the 4-year standard maintenance service expiration and the 7-year extended service expiration), then you will have saved money, ignoring the time value of money.

Looking at the flip side though, say if you don't need a clutch replacement by 140,000 km, the spark plug replacement and "vehicle check and standard services as set out in the BMW Service Booklet" will have to cost you over $2,000 over the 3-year period in order for you to save money.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough information to make a conclusion here. If anyone else here has more info (i.e. on spark plug replacement costs and frequency, as well as any other "vehicle check and standard services as set out in the BMW Service Booklet"), feel free to chime in.

*Note: Yes, I know I'm using dealer prices here and there are probably lots of places that can do it for less. But in order to compare apples to apples (i.e. assuming the customer wants to stick with the stealership for all their BMW needs), let's stick with dealer prices for comparative purposes.

If those figures are 5 years or 6 years including the free 4 year warranty (ie. you really only get 1 or 2 years).

Those numbers are wayyyyyyy too high.

If its 5 years on top of the 4 years = 9 years...which is unlikely, they are good.

I'd say forget it. You can revisit this issue 3 years from now, thats what i'm doing.

Tracking a 335xi that sounds painful...I have a 335xi 6mt...doesn't seem like a responsive track car!

How are you finding it?

++++ you can have a lot of work done at an INDY for a bit less.

For those who don't know Service Inclusive Plus used to be called Service Inclusive. BMW now refers to the 4 years of scheduled maintenance as Service Inclusive.

I bought the Service Inclusive option before it became reworked and rebadged as Service Inclusive Plus.

I paid a little over $2K for 5 years 96,000. I figure if I'm hard on the brakes and need full replacement 2X during this period I'm ahead when the other items are factored in. If I only get one full front and rear brake replacement during this time I'm a bit behind when all of the other items are factored in.

I'm attending a dealer organized track day in the summer so that will put some wear and tear on the pads and rotors.

I'm not sure if the prices changed but I asked my dealership for some information because there is a promotion offering up to $750 off on an extended warranty and up to $500 off a service package

BMW Extended Warranty:

- 6 years / 160,000 kms - $2,799.00

- 6 years / 200,000 kms - $2,899.00

- 7 years / 160,000 kms - $3,699.00

- 7 years / 200,000 kms - $3.799.00

BMW Service Inclusive:

- 7 Years / 140,000kms - $1,295.00

- 6 years / 200,000 kms – $2,195.00

BMW Service Inclusive Plus Full Maintenance:

- 6 years – 120,000km - $3,395.00

- 7 years – 140,000kms - $3,895.00

- 6 Years – 200,000kms - $6,495.00

I'm thinking about the 6Y or 7Y 160K extended warranty, what do you guys think?

Also, the pricing appears to be lower than what others have previously posted. The advertising material I have indicates that various options are available starting at $2,799, and this is consistent with what the dealer quoted on the least expensive extended warranty.

Just an aside, this plan is offerred only in eastern Canada, not in the west. BMW is evaluating the market in the west. Only way to get an extended warranty in the west is via CPO. I know, I know: questionable whether ext. warranty is worth it - just a tidbit.

Thanks, that's good to know. I was about to ask.

Any recommendations for or against for extended warranty?
I received the letter from BMW saying that my 4 years warranty period is about to end and suggested I look into extending it.

I have a 2008 335xi with 48K
