Guys I have been kicking around the idea of purchasing a 335i. However, I cannot seem to be able to find more information about the difference between the N54 vs N55 ?
Also, is there a sticky that give more info on the most common issues with this car and general info? Thanks Edy |

The N54 is a twin turbo setup, the N55 is a single "twin scroll" turbo. That is the major difference between the two. Both are 3.0L I6 engines. There are many more technical differences between the 2 but thats the cliff notes version. If you are looking for which is better, most will argue that the N54 can be tuned to put out more power, but it has also been on the market for a lot longer. BMW uses the N54 in the new 1M and the 335is car, so based on that you might assume it is better/has more potential. With the N55 being a single turbo, it is cheaper for them to produce. If I was guessing I would put my money on that being the reason for them changing the design. I'm no expert, but just my thoughts.
