Exclamation Staggered on XI??? Any Problems?

Hey

I'm confused on whether or not I could do staggered on a XI. I think if you get the sports package, you get a staggered setup..right? I heard from a couple of our wheel venders that I shouldn't go staggered b/c of understeer. What are the pro's & con's of going staggered on an XI. Rather major cons. The only pro I can think of is appearance.

Thanks

No problems yet...However I do feel they are very heavy wheels (19' m5 reps). I feel my tranny doesn't shift as smooth as it did before. People here have said that the weight will not affect the transmission.

I found this on the site. So the sport package doesn't give the staggered setup

you can go staggered or non-staggered

oversteer or understeer will not be a big deal..... depending on what you do with your car.... for regular daily driving you will be fine, if you plan on tracking it(dont know why you would with an XI, no offense), but then oversteer and understeer would be something you should research on an all-wheel drive car.

Go staggered, but be on the safe side and make sure all the tires have the same overall diameter.

I know with Subarus there's no way you can go staggered because even a relatively tiny rotational difference in even just one of the wheels can tear your diffs apart.

If you go staggered - Your Tires NEED TO BE THE SAME overall diameter. You can go on tirerack and get the detaield specs of the tires and they show the overall / rolling diameter of the tires.

If the overall diameter is different you will have problems.

You can get 235/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rears and have no problem. ( if i remember correct)

May be different options in Canada but my 2007 E92 328xi has staggered wheels/tires (18", style 197) that are 225/40 in the front and 255/35 in the rear. This option required selection of sports package and performance tires. In winter, I drive on 17" rims/winter tires that are not staggered.

Staggered tires are an OEM option from BMW, so concerns about stability, etc. are likely unfounded.

My 335xi on order has a staggered setup with the 18" 162s. I understand that they are, in fact, run flats.

Yeah, there is an option to upgrade to an 18 staggered setup. You have to get the sports pack and then upgrade from the 17's to 18" 162 style rims.

This was on the door jam in my E90 328xi.

The selection for the 17s with "front" and "rear" seems to be staggered.

(Sorry for the bad photo)

staggered 18's w/ same diameter: 225/40-18 and 255/35-18
staggered 19's w/ same diameter: 235/35-19 and 275/30-19

only reason i can think of that it would ruin your diff, is because the rears are heavier than the fronts. but with the x-drive you should be ok. IMO

I have a hard time believing that BMW would provide the sport package for its xi's with the staggered setup as standard, if it believed this configuration would ruin the diff. and place the company under the burden of greater warranty costs.

I believe Quattro is not the same as xDrive? Could that be a reason why?

Staggered is fine. The 18" OEM set up does NOT have the same diameter front to rear I found during in my research. There is a .1" difference.

Ok folks, sorry to confuse things further, but I too am looking at new wheels and am having the same type of questions. I think I have the tire size/wheel size thing figured out I hope!!! But who knows about offsets? Here is what I'm looking at. Miro AT 347 wheels with 8" wheels in front and 9" in the rear, 225/40-18---255/35-18. I found some on ebay that have the whole wheel tire package from xAutowheels. Anyway these Miro's are much like the M5 replica. I have read on some other threads that ppl are having problems with their offsets and spacers. Do any of you know what I need? I want the wheels to be as close to flush as possible with the fenders. Do I need to special order a spacer or will they come with the wheel package or is this set up even going to work for me? I want to use the 17 style 161 OEM wheels that come on the car for winter tires. And yes they do come from the factory staggerd with sport package 8"F 8.5"R.
Thanks in advance for your help. The ppl on this post are awsome!

I got 235/35/19 on the front with 40mm offset, and 265/30/19 with 30mm offset in the rear on e92 xi and I get no light, rubbing, or any other problem besides the fact that 19s make my car run like a camry. Going to be dropping it soon with H&R Sports, I'll keep you guys updated

I played it safe and got 19x8.5 all around wrapped in 235-35...I know that the diameter of tire is what you really need to pay attention to...235-35 in the front and 275-30 at rear is what you want to get if you choose to go staggered...good luck pal

Just put staggered 197's (225 f / 255 r) on my 328xi sedan and no problems. I've heard that certain aftermarket wheel/tire combos give problems, maybe because of looser tolerances.

I decided to stick with BMW stuff...just in case...
