Radar Detector Mount
Hey all, I just bought the valentine one and I want to mount it somewhere on my 335i. I need somewhere that wont block much of my vision and will also allow me to get rid of the chord in favor of a power chord with inline fuse. Any suggestions and/or pics would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Also, has anyone had any experience with blendmount? |

I just did a hardwire of my passport. i did LOTS of research and the best place to locate it is right in front of your nose. put it above and to the left of the rearview mirror. the one positive is that you dont really need the remote mute button if you do this, as it's right there. the valentine will actually look even better than the escort there, as the depth is shallower.
i wish there was a better spot, but there isn't, due to our high-sitting windshield wipers, and relatively small windshields. For the hardwire i used the common "add-a-fuse" method, with the wire tucked inside the headliner all the way around, and in between the mirror attach point and mirror power wire, into the detector. took me ten minutes, including setting up the new fuse spot, and it looks awesome and powers up with the ignition. invisible to almost anyone. due to OEM sunscreen tint can't really see too well from the outside, so if i park nose first i dont bother taking it down ever (advantage of 335 is being able to park nose first ![]() |

There are several DIY's here on e90post. Here is one such DIY: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97545
The best mounting point is just to the left of the rear view mirror, as the V1 requires a clear view of the rear windsheild as well. |

I did the same thing (kinda). Used the V1 clip and attached it on the right side of my sun visor (left of rearview mirror). Used a safe-n-sound fused hidden mirror hardwire kit (ebay) and piggybacked power and ground leads to the the green-white and brown connectors on back of rearview mirror itself (not the console's as rest of members did on thread) and ran the leads through and along the cable bundle into the console and out from the headliner. Super super happy with install. No tapping, cutting, splicing, removing of glovebox, a pillar, ground issues affecting sunroof, etc.
Reversible in 3 minutes flat. |

hmm I have mine to the top right of rear view mirror. Anyone else tried this and decided top left was better upon comparison?

I'm probably in the minority here, but for the second time on a 335i, I have utilized the supplied V1 fused wiring and tapped into one of the switched wires up in the sunroof wiring looms. I'm thinking it was a green wire with a yellow stripe, it's work, you have to pull back the sticky tape bundling a gazillion other wires, then find a ground as well. But then you just feed the power wire out the headliner and the V1 is switched on & off with the ignition - no worries.
