Battery Replacement for 2007 e92 (335i Coupe)

After extensive research on the best place to find a replacement battery for my 335i coupe, I realized there's not much information out there on how to do it.

Most posts I've read said just to take it to the dealer or Costco, but my local Costco doesnt carry a battery for this car yet, and spending extra money at the stealership wasn't in the cards for me.

So I finally found a replacement battery at Batteries Plus. It's the Rayovac Maximum with 765 cold cranking amps (versus 720 of the OEM battery), and a reserve capacity of 135 amps. It comes with a 24 month free replacement warranty and a 65 month pre-rated warranty and I paid $149.99 + tax.

The installation was fairly straightforward, and the new battery so far has not thrown any codes and I didnt need to take it to the dealership for re-programming (which several posts say you need to do).

Here's a link to the battery (which indicates 730 CCA, not 765): http://http://www.batteriesplus.com/...sli94r-li.aspx

Hopefully this information is helpful for those looking to avoid overpaying at the stealership!

I'm with you OP, but look out, here come the fear mongers with stories/links about trunk lids being blown off by exploding batteries, cars just dying in the middle of the highway, and entire electrical systems having to be replaced for thousands of dollars...just because you used a non AGM battery and did not register it. Hurry up, perhaps you can still make it to the dealer in time before the car turns into a worthless pile of metal, rubber and glass!

AGM is not on all cars

Only the ones with most of the options get it as far as I understand it.
I would get an Indy or someone with a scanner to register it if I could.

You need to get it registered. Just because you haven't noticed any problem yet doesn't mean that the charging system is operating as intended.

I know that I have to change my battery soon since its still the original and my car is an 06 and this winter there were a few times where I had to boost my car.

I was told by the BMW SA that not all batteries need to be registered. It only applies to certain year and models. I have a 2006 325i and was told that my car's battery did not have to be registered. The only problem I might encounter is that I would have to register the car radio after the battery install or else it won't work.

I don't always trust the words of a SA but please chime if he's totally off the charts.

Thanks!

+1

I bought mines from pep-boys. They carry the oem spec one (Bosch) for 07" 35i E92. I didn't know about registering, 2 weeks later I got flicker lights, sounds, a cranking effort and then it all went dark. I got a Jumpstart run home, Used my Bavtool to reg and no issues at all after that.

Best of luck.

Any info on this battery replacement issue is appreciated. Prices etc... I know I will need to replace mine sometime soon. For the last 2 years I get a yellow battery icon if I keep my radio on for more than 3 min or so after the car is shut off. No problems starting or anything. Its a stock battery still so I can consider myself lucky I guess...I wonder if i will need to register it.

My car is doing the same thing. Just call Global BMW up for prices:
Battery @ $207 and install @ $208 @ 2 hr of install.
Can anyone one tell me if this sound right?

Yes just get OEM battery at the dealership like your mention this way it has all the same specs, same everything and do the job yourself. This way it will only cost you 208 total. There is a very good DIY here that can help you trough the process. I replaced mine in about 30 min. Never done it before.

2 hrs of install....
