20111 Navigation Maps question

I just took delivery on a brand new 2011 328i. So is there a key anywhere that explains what all the color coding means on the nav maps.

As I'm driving I see some roads are red, some are yellow, some are black/white checked. I don't see anything in the manual that explains what the color coding means on the roads/objects?

I'm not talking about traffic conditions (where I see the triangles and grey signs). I mean just the standard color coding of the roads and stuff. What does it all mean?

Also, is there any reason to change to night mode view? It seems like whether its dark or light out, the "regular" map view works fine. What's the point of the night view?

Oh, and by the way, how do I tell if my car came pre-loaded with the latest map version. It says 2011, but the map does not include my street, which was built 4 years ago (new house), and has been on google and yahoo maps for at least 2 years.

What is the exact latest maps version number that is available and that should be in a car built in March 2011?

If I need to upgrade, do I need to purchase a DVD, or can it just be upgraded via USB port or some other means (as I have the nav with a hard drive).
