RPi scoops, are these things a joke?

I just bought some red RPi scoops and I am honestly surprised at poor design of these things. Admittedly, the surprise is partially my fault because I didn't research the install and while I knew I would have to drill, I thought it was onto some substantial piece of structure. The metal is so thin that it probably deforms at hwy speeds, not sure if that's an intended attribute of the design, but I don't see them flexing like this and the screws staying put in place properly. On the picture below the main lip has a rolled mouth, mine is just thin metal all the way across.

Who came up with the mounting points on these things, just take a self tapping screws, drive them through the flimsy grill shroud and secure the back of them with silicone sealant so they don't back out... really? Why don't I just duct tape and super glue them into place and call it a day?

I'm already running a AFE Dci so I doubt they will even have an impact on performance at all, I just liked the way they looked. Are the Cyba or AFE scoops any better? Might just pick up some AFE scoops and paint them red myself, they look like they mount on a factory location.

Wow. That's a disappointing design.

Don't know what the AFE scoops look like, but the cyba scoops come in red for $39 shipped.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=289187

I have them myself (opted for the matte black ones and painted them yellow). They use OEM mounting locations. No need to drill, and installation was easy. They don't flex either.. it's a very sturdy design.

But in the end, whether or not scoops make a difference will always be up in the air.

Honestly, I believe they are doing exactly what all of them are perfectly designed to do: block your radiator airflow which will allow it to heat up more rapidly in the morning (albeit overheat in the evening) and collect each and every lighted cigarette butt tossed by the unthinking driver in front of you, thereby keeping our highways both safe and clean.

Thank you for your civic duty of keeping America clean!

I have Cyba for over a year now. Install was 10 min, no drilling, no any problem. Worth $39.

Still on the fence about this; don't know if it's worth the money or if it is just for look.

My engine after about 5k with scoops looked like the sahara desert. So much sand and dirt in there. Removed.
