Just get the bird poop off with anything, and worry about waxing the spot later. Once the acid goes through the clear-coat, it is over. If I’m on the road, I will use water and a paper towel GENTLY, the when I get home, I detail the spot.
But it is better to keep a few Micro Fiber towels in the trunk!

My optician recommends using paper towels to clean my eyeglasses, and so far so good. I'd be more concerned about scratching the paint with the girt and grime on the surrounding paint and in the bird poo. (Many species of birds -- including domestic chickens -- need to eat stones and gravel.)
I usually use my car wash bucket with water and a sponge.

If I see bird poop on my car I [usually with the quickness] get a paper towel and soak it, then lay it on the bird poo for a minute or so, then when it's all loosened up wipe it off.

Chemical Guys Synthetic Quick Detailer
Paper towels on the windshield are fine. The very best thing for cleaning glass is actually newspaper.

I keep a couple of microfiber towels in my car at all times. NEVER use paper towels or tissues on your car. This goes for the interior as well as the exterior. I learned this the hard way.

Get the towel dripping wet "Pinch" the residue off rather than wiping it off. Pinch towards the center of the stain. That'll keep you from damaging surrounding areas. |

Paper towels and water?! *cringes* Your statement above couldn't be more wrong.
Good advice mostly in this thread. Listen to the experts, get quality products and be gentle.

I always carry a bottle of ONR mixed in a spray bottle along with a microfiber towel to clean bird shit. I bought a pack of 50 or so from Costco for 15 bucks. Good deal. ONR is cheap to dilute and make a quick detailer too. I ran out of DP Rinse less wash & gloss; it smelt like skittles!

First of all you dont rub or scratch the bird shit off your car. Of cause if you do this your going to scratch the paint because your grinding the dropping against your finish. The same thing will happen with a detail spray.Thats common sense. If you place a soaking paper towel over the droppings they will loosen up after a couple of minutes and come right off. Now if the droppings have been sitting on your car for a couple of days thats a different matter.

Allow me to clear up a few misconceptions-
Using Paper Paper products (shop towels, tissue paper, newspaper, etc) are made from cellulose (wood) fibres, which will invariably cause micro scratches to a paint surface. Newsprint ink used to be solvent-based and was used to clean glass; however it is now made with a water-based polymer, which has no cleaning ability Water for Cleaning Rolls Royce and the Bentley Motor Company in the 1930, along with BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari and many other fine-automobile makers used to recommend washing automobiles bodywork with just plain low pressure water. While this is a very safe method, water is not enough of a solvent to cut the road dirt, grease and oil or the protein base of stubborn spots, like bug remains |
