Hey guys, i was looking at Autozones website, and I came across this drop in K&N Air Filter.

I was wondering if anyone has put one of these in their car? Any Feedback? Comments?

Do you guys think its worth it, or if it will even make a difference?

It will make a difference.
It may eventually kill your MAF as a bonus because of the oil. Paper rules, just get a good one.

These cars use TMAP, not MAF.

The drop-in filter will not harm your car, will make a difference, and should not void your warranty. Might want to put the paper filter back in when you go in for service just in case.

OP: there are guys on here who will battle to the bitter end about whether the stock airbox w/drop-in or full intake is better. The argument usually is that a DCI is more free, but the airbox enthusiasts worry that it pulls hot engine air. I had a drop-in before going to a full intake DCI system and the full intake feels and sounds better IMO. I believe that dynotests have also consistently shown DCI intakes performing better than the drop-ins but this is just from memory.

Search around in the intake threads and decide whether you want a full intake or drop-in, or either at all, but you should be happy with both.

DCIs have indeed been shown to produce more HP on dynos.

No way does this void your warranty. It's meant as an OEM replacement, meaning it doesn't change the original operating parameters of the car...(unlike say...JB3...haha )

I'm not sure there's much in the way of a gain, but I don't think it will damage the car either.

TMAP or MAF, if you alter a component in a basic engine system while that engine is under warranty, you beg for trouble should something go wrong with any part of that engine system, your alteration being the proximate cause or no.

For clarification, you don't 'void the warranty' on the entire vehicle when you modify or change without authorization a factory component; You CAN 'void the warranty' on any system or system component that stands to be affected by that unauthorized change or modification. Taken to extremes, if you bugger a basic system badly enough that the buggering snowballs and takes the engine with it, you CAN 'void the warranty' on that very expensive major assembly. However, the warranty on the front ball joints will remain in full force.

Being an evil person at heart, it used to give me a positive thrill when somebody would drive their newer Brand M in with the CEL glowing warmly on the dashboard with their OBDII throwing the codes for a MAF failure, and lifting the lid on the airbox revealed a delightful red and oily K&N. "Yes, sir, your car is under full warranty--EXCEPT the oily MAF grid, which wasn't oily until you installed that there oily red K&N filter."

If you must install an aftermarket, non-factory-standard air filter, at least wait until the warranty's up. If it says somewhere in your BMW manual that BMW recommends a K&N air filter as an alternative 'OEM' replacement (OEM means ORIGINAL equipment manufacturer, by the way), then it's ok. But it doesn't. So, don't.

i have the afe its cool it will not void ur warranty and if u dont over oil it than it wont get everywhere

I had HP's N55 foam filter for 12K+ no prob.
like someone said, just don't over oil after routine maintenance.
u can clean ur MAF if you're worried bout oil residue.

Yes a drop in K&N filter should not void your warranty. If your worried it takes litterally 2 seconds to swap out the K&N filter for the stock filter.

BMS did some testing and found zero gains with drop in filters and intakes at up to 15psi down low tapering to 12psi up top. Quite a bit different than the N54 that greatly benefits up top. Save your money on N55 intakes they are useless, IMO. Same goes for larger charge piping.
