Half engine light - not HPFP symptoms

My car (07 335i) has been throwing half engine CEL's for the past week. I took it to BMW and they have diagnosed a faulty HPFP.

However, I don't have any of the HPFP symptoms - no long crank, no rough idle - I can't even feel power loss when the fault occurs.

Are they misdiagnosing things?

I did have it scanned - it just reported a general limp mode.

I had the same exact problem you are describing 2 weeks ago, ended up being a faulty knock sensor. But that would come up as a particular code.
