It's Official-335i overheats to 300F and goes into limp mode

"All at once the BMW coupe that we've considered the leader in its class finally decides it's had enough. With its oil temperature pinned at 300 degrees F and its coolant temperature climbing rapidly, the turbocharged Bavarian wonder engages its limp-home mode and we crawl pathetically back to the pits."

were you cruising? if you were staying at one consistent speed, it's less stressful than constantly gunning it from say 0-100 repeatedly
just a guess though

Did 4 runs from 0-140. Then a cruise for about 100 miles averaging 109 according to the computer.

I find it funny that no one that I've heard of yet had this problem in the real world and that even in my proceded 335i in 100 degree day drivng hard as hell I've never experience that problem but somehow when Infinti gets a hold of a BMW for a press event to show of the car versus it's competition it somehow overheats magically. If you guys read it right Infinti arranged the whole thing obviously to purposely destroy the BMW image and showing off their car to the press. Can't anyone figure that out? lol this is funny especially after reading BMW just won a suit against infiniti for "jockin" their M letter lol. Infinti is such a poser brand it's not funny. On the other hand maybe this is for the better that way I'll see more of these souped up rental cars on the street and less 335's

In this case, I don't have to say I told ya so.

I've got money that the 335i was an auto with no oil cooler.

just read more carefully, the car was provided by Nissan at their testing ground vs the new G37 coupe

I'm not saying it outright, but maybe Nissan engineers ran the 335 all night long... I'm trying here

I'd love to agree - stupid Nissan, they brought in a ringer. But I know that isn't true. We've heard reports of hot lapped 335i's overheating. This 335i was clearly being hot lapped and it over heated. It is not surprising. BMW needs to recall all 335is without the oil cooler before this crap gets out of hand.

What's the Deal?

Every BMW that I have ever owned never ran as hot as member's 335i.....what's up with that???

Why would BMW let the most important fluid in the car run that hot???

I'm calling a b.s. here a bit. They did not give any information at all about timing, heat, nothing. Basically begin the whole article with the 3-Series went into limp mode.

Jeez you guys. Tampered with the car? Seriously. Over-heating has been a much discussed issue here; the fact that a car finally overheated at the hands of journalists should be no surprise. Just search for "oil temperature" and see how many threads you get, it isn't like the 335i running hot is some new piece of information.

Well, in the defense of the Bimmer guys, the AW report was pretty vague. I doubt all 9 cars overheated even after reading this. I am sure one probably did.

The real question is will BMW make the right move and recall the cars with no oil cooler, or will they just ignore the problem? I vote for ignore the problem. Personally I'm not going to stop until I get a retrofit.

I just read the article, the 335i did have a 6-speed automatic.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that mean a non-sport 335 v. a sport G37?
