Smile Procede v5 14psi log FBO

3-30 DIC beta map
New 106 beta firmware (incorporates PWM meth control and new open loop fueling updates)
Boost setting= 40% (14psi)
Ignition Correction= 100%
Full bolt-ons
6MT @ 77k miles
91oct (no meth)

A few things worth noting:
Original 77k mile wastegates are loose and rattly. No doubt contributing to slower boost rise. Still a little squirrelly in the fist 2 gear though. Getting upgraded turbos next week though! So our days of datalogging stock turbo performance on our shop car is running short.

Running 14psi on a FBO car, even on 91oct, will result in pretty solid looking datalogs. No ignition advance drop outs. No short term lean-run. In fact, the closed loop fuel control system ends up removing fuel once boost is achieved. You can see this by the 10.5-11.0:1 rich spike that occurs when boost spools up. Quickly after that (within 0.1 second), the DME corrects for the rich condition and achieves the desired AFR target of 12-12.5:1. This new and very generous open loop fuel mapping is probably overkill. But it should keep those who live and die by the wideband happy. It should be noted that the Innovative wideband, during this pull, actually showed AFR to be slightly richer than what was logged.

You can see an interesting gear-dependant ignition advance trend going on there as well. In the lower gears where rate of acceleration is higher (and cylinder filling lower), there is more ignition advance. In 2nd gear, the lowest timing value is 8.5 deg. In 3rd, 5.8 deg. In 4th, 4.5 deg. Just as you would expect with DIC running conservative boost settings. No sense in targeting a fixed ignition advance value during a variety of engine load conditions. You would be just giving up safe power for no reason.

I'll have some interesting PWM meth logs to post up a bit later.

Cheers,
shiv

Nice, good luck with the turbos next week! I'm dying for mine too.

What turbos did you end up getting, Shiv?

And now a normal full boost (16psi) log running the new PWM meth.

Notice how quickly and cleanly meth turns on/off between gears. No spike at onset. No unstable flow readings. Full timing under load. Solid AFR. Expected IAT drop. Good clean fun.

Yes, it's pretty amazing. But what one would expect when you control meth as you would gasoline in a proper constant pressure fuel injection system. Anyone who thinks a "basic meth kit" (variable pressure, hobbs switch activated) meth kit is good enough needs to see the light

That boost response looks pretty bad, is it triggering any underboost codes?
It wierd how there a spike as if it attempts to spool up and then drops down

Takes about 0.5 seconds to build full boost after the shift. Not close to being underboost code worthy. But i knew this day was coming. I've been watching the Procede's wastegate compensation slowly climb it's way up over the last 20k miles. It's at nearly 60% now. Which is more than I've ever seen on any car I've ever looked at. Especially one at sea level. Strangely enough, the car still makes over 400whp on 91oct pump gas at 15psi. So the turbos themselves are solid. It's just the wastegates that are crap. I should have complained about the wastegate rattle before the warranty ran out. But soon our trusty car will be breathing extra deeply again.

I'm in the same boat, my wg rattle when I am in part throttle boost. They probably rattle during wot runs as well, however you simply can't hear it over the engine noise.

Im gonna complain about it again, last they they said "its normal"

Shiv this looks good. With the meth kit installed how many full throttle pulls would we execpt out of washer fluid container?

Clap, - Take the car back to them and keep complaining so you can get a new wastegate

My car spent 34 days in the shop for this the first time. The ordered wastegates which didnt fit my turbos according to them, turbos were fine so bmw didnt approve new ones. After 34 days they ended up tightening the rods, that was rouhgly 17k ago. Took it in like 2k ago, same noises, they said its fine "normal". Like I said I will make another appointment.

I've never been able to run out of meth through repeated pulls in the same driving period. It will really take some time to go through it. I haven't checked the meth level in our car in 2 days and I do more on-boost testing that most customers I think. At the drag strip, I'd imagine that you'd get at least 30 runs out of it which is considerable.

any particular reason why you don't just re-tighten the rod for the rear turbo?
