2007 OEM Alarm

Does anyone have this installed on an e92? I keep hearing about this anti-towing alarm or something and was wondering if you guys knew more details about it.

I searched, but I'm looking for specific details on the tilt meter (to prevent towing?), its new on the 2007 e92's and I heard from Matt that it takes 6 hrs to program right...not 15 minutes.....so anyone have any info besides search for it?

I'm positive that all of our alarms include tilt sensor... Let me look for a page to prove it to you..

We have the interior motion detector not a tilt sensor.

I have an E92 with the alarm installed. When I took delivery they put a floor jack underneath and tilted it for me to demonstrate it. This resulted in a very loud shreaking noise from inside the E92.

Just installed a full OEM alarme on my E92... About 5 hours to install, and a real install take 8 hours, because the headliner have to be changed... I've made a modification on mine to accept the new rear dome light... Then install the wire... change the internal mirror... Etc
Now the car is upgrading and coding... to V25

Took her out last Tuesday, drove her for two day and now she's covered up in the driveway

Since I have the SUV, I'll just drive it till the roads dry up.

...and how does this stop it from being towed? I see cars with their alarms going off and lights flashing getting towed all the time.

All U.S. cars are pre-wired. That saves a lot of labor!

How could any car prevent towing?? You could put four go-jacks under the wheels of any car and push it wherever you want.. I used to do this in college behind the autolab all the time to mess with people..

Alarms are good for the noob thieves. If it's a pro and they want your car, consider it gone. It's really not that hard. But for the noob that tries stealing the car or breaking in, and the alarm sounds, it'll probably scare them away.

IMO, having the alarm is a good thing for the day to day idiot who thinks they can take the car or something in the car. If a pro wants it, or anyone with more than two brain cells, any car is very easy to take. Unless in a secured area.

Just my $0.02, feel free to agree, disagree, etc..

Yea Josh, thanks for all the feedback, I guess searching involves knowing the key terms....

My insurance group? or whatever you call them will replace my car at market value if it gets stolen...so I'm not sure why I should put an alarm on, no discounts....nadda but I guess it could prevent some keying or something, any opinions guys?

Yeah, you get the blinking Red LED under the front mirror. If you hold the unlock button, it will go into panic mode. There are different advantages. It's up to you whether or not the benefits match the money it costs to get it installed. That varies from dealer to dealer, and I highly recommend you negotiate it into the contract, otherwise you will probably get quoted a stupid expensive price. Good luck with your decision.. And enjoy the new car..

PS. If you are looking for discounts on your insurance, I know Lo-jack does reduce it some. In MA this reduction was not nearly enough to justify the purchases of Lojack to me, along with the fact that all of the infrastructure is not out there for Lojack recovery besides in major cities. But in LA, all PD's might have the Lo-jack capability, and you might get a significant reduction..

You know you can get the 35% discount if you have the BMW Stolen Vehicle Recovery, right?
