Difference between Polish (PO85RD) & Glaze (Meguiars #7)

Is there any difference between the two? Should I use the glaze after the polish, or is it pretty much the same thing?

A polish polishes and a glade fills in imperfections and makes them look better without having to fixing them.

^ +1 use the glaze after polishing but there are two types of glazes. If using a sealant as LSP use an acrylic glaze with no oils, if using a wax as LSP use an oil based glaze. This is a general statement as I'm sure some people could have success not doing this. Megs #7 is also called show car glaze and is compatible with waxes.

So if I were to use the #7 glaze, I wouldnt be able to use Blackfire Wet Diamond afterwards? My plan as of now is in this order

1) Menzerna Super Intensive Polish (PO83)
2) Menzerna Micro Finish (PO85RD Polish)
3) Meguiars #7 Glaze
4) Blackfire Wet Diamond with Polycharger
5) Chemical Guys XXX Hard Core Paste Wax

Do you guys see anything wrong with this setup, such as incompatibilities? of course i'll be washing using 2 bucket method and clay bar prior to. Also, can someone recommend me which CCS pads to use with each one? My goal is to take out swirls and seal everything. Its all going on a Jet Black.

I'm led to believe formMegs site it's best followed up with #26 yellow which is a wax. Can't discern from their site if it's an oil based glaze or acrylic. I've used CG EZ Extreme Shine Creme Acrylic before BFWD with a good result so I know that works.

There is essentially no point in using a glaze on an already perfect finish that you will be sealing and waxing. Well, that is arguable, but the difference, if any, will be incredibly small.

A glaze like #7 is more of a maintenance product for cars with light marring where abrading is undesirable (say, older paint, or black DDs where polishing all the time makes no sense).

I also don't think #7 under a sealant is a great idea. BFWD is a great sealant, but it very much likes doing on clean paint. I would refine with PO8RD, re-wash, then apply sealant (or at least do an IPA wipe pre BFWD). Any oils on the surface will almost certainly reduce its durability. As an aside, I'd wait *at least* 30 mins after BFWD before waxing.

So, cliffs notes. If you were not polishing #7 would be a great idea. Since you are polishing, with the presumed intent of removing all marring, it is superfluous.

Cure time for BFWD is 8 hours. I would not wax until the next morning personally and allow it cure as much as possible. Heck waxing on a perectly clean surface is really quick like a couple hours whole car nice and thin. Totally agree on the glaze step, I use the CG just for a little extra pop and shine. That's just IMO.

#7 is an oily glaze does its best work on single stage paints where richness really adds to the look. #26 is a lovely wax for single stage and clear coated paint(which if it was disguised would easily beat BFWD IMO) but it works really nicely on top of #7 in a single stage paint situation.

Thanks for the input. I just got done prepping the car with claybar today and I should be polishing either tomorrow or the next day. This is the first time that I've used claybar on the car since purchase, so it took an extensive amount of time as there was quite a bit of surface impurities.

As for the #7, as per your instructions, I'll keep that part out of the equation. If anything, I was thinking that it would help bring out more brilliance from the paint, but as you said it'll probably be quite minimal. On top of that, I'm not sure if its oil based, which obviously would not work too well with the sealant.

Thanks again, I'll post up before and after pics this weekend. The car has quite a bit of swirls, so this might be a 2 day event.

In that case, I'll probably split the project up into 2 days, one for polish and sealant (which should take all day), and then apply wax the next day. I've heard so many good things about adding CG on top of BFWD, I cant wait to see the results!
