Hi guys

Hope your week is going well.

I ordered replacement seat backs with the nets from the UK and they arrived today so I had a crack and installed them. All went well and they look really cool. They only cost about $90 each and I think they make the seat back look better. Trick when installing the new seat backs is to make sure you have the head rest fully up as the arms that hold it in place can get in the way. The plastic restrainers at the bottom are a bit of a pain to install but take your time and it all works. Took me about 10 minutes each seat.

I am also about to replace the centre console back cover with the two cigarette lighter ports and the ash tray cover (pic attached). Again, purchased from UK for about $100 and will do this over the weekend I think - show you some pics once I'm done. Need to wire it also by tapping into the port that is under the centre arm rest - lots of threads on here with how-to-do-its.

I also installed the luggage drawer in the boot - man this is worth getting!!!! Very easy to install and it actually holds a fair bit of stuff whislt not taking up too much depth. Shop around but I got it cheapest at Schmiedmann.com and their shipping costs are very reasonable.

Just waiting for the Alpine Hi-Fi upgrade kit to come and I think I'm done.

Enjoy....

I'm confused, do those seatbacks look different from stock? I think mine look like that already.

That boot compartment however, looks interesting. Totally be a made place for a secret stash of weed and guns.

Hi

The standard seat back on a 2010 3 series doesn't come with the seat back nets - don't ask me why, but one of those cost cutting things I guess?

You can order them as an extra but it worked out heaps cheaper for me to do it myself which I did.

The luggage drawer is really cool - don't know why thery don't come standard they are so practical and easy to install - no drilling or anything.

Have a good one...

Strange how it's not there on a 3 series while it's standard on my 1, where my rear seats aren't even designed to properly carry people.

Looks like I need to get myself the luggage drawer as a place to keep the more fragile items.

Exactly!! Good to put a Uzi when you get caught traveling 45km in excess!

Cop: "drivers lic!?"
3 driver: "it's in the boot sir.."

Hey

No worries it was bmminiparts.com - ask for Toby he is a great help.

As you are in the UK you may also wish to check the prices from schmiedmann.com in Denmark as they are REALLY competitve on most BMW new parts and reasonable shipping. I didn't get the seat backs off them as I was purchasing some other items that only bmminiparts.com had cheap as in-stock special.

Hope that helps...

The cheapest is from Schmiedmann.com with the drawer (#51-47-7-131-155) costing US$282.61 and you require two adapters (#51-47-6-956-665 LEFT and 51-47-6-956-666 RIGHT) and they are US$10.19 each. Shipping was about US$60 bring the total cost to about US$360. With the current exchange rate you get it even cheaper still!!!!

Below is a pic off their website of ther drawer.

Hope that helps

Those nets are 'standard' on my 2008 e93

How much do they cost to produce? 50 cents? Pretty pathetic cost cutting when we are already being gouged imo

Can you confirm if the draw is compatible for the E82? Also, how much weight can it support and can it be removed easily?

...is that an M3 boot mat?

The drawer looks awesome! And my 09 320i came with the seat nets... Pretty crappy cost cutting but I suppose it makes sense across many thousands of cars.

Thanks for that link. I didn't realise BMW had deleted them as standard equipment and the lack of map pockets has been irritating me. BMW UK quoted something ridiculous like GBP350 to retrofit.

Were they difficult to fit? Did you need any tools?

Not sure on the weight limit but it seems very sturdy. To remove it you turn two clips and pull it out - so easy it's not funny. So if you needed to remove it for bags etc if you were going to the airport it would be a 15 second job.

Hope that helps.

My wife took delivery of her new January 2011 built 325i sedan with M sport package last week and this car does have the seat backs with the net.

AFAIK the 320i/d and 323i LCI don't have the nets but I thought the 325i did.

I never use the ones on the 325i anyway! I do like the look of the drawer, but it would make loading/carrying bikes more difficult perhaps. Is it easy to remove if required? Is there residual framework to catch on things then?

Just a stanley knife - used it very carefully and placed a towel behind where I was cutting. The stem on the christmas tree lug isn't too thick so it cuts reasonably easily. Just be careful not to cut the seat.

Hope that helps...
