08 335i twin turbo coupe?

Hello everyone, new to the site. I'm about to be a new BMW owner, I'm looking at trading my current vehicle, 08 caliber SRT4 for a 2008 335i twin turbo coupe, its $32,000 and has 70,000kms. Just wondering if you guys can tell me how you like it?? problems you had with it? hows the reliability?? I've been reading alot of bad reviews about it and it made me have second thoughts about buying it, so I just wanna see what the owners on this forum got to say, I had it out for a test drive and I absolutely love it. thanks for the help

n54's have high pressure fuel pump issues but is covered for for 120,000 miles. also 335i's have the actuators on the wastegates not closing properly. misfires, injectors going bad.

welcome. i recently got into my 335i and love the car. handles well really moves. blows away the v8 s4 i came out of for it. hpfp is covered till 120k plus the new pumps are holding up well. let your car warm up before you start boosting all over, this is a major reason foe turbo issues that people experience. carelessness or the lacking knowledge of the fact maybe. oil tempa reach 170-180 your g2g

Well what can I tell you, I had my car new of the lot in 2008.

At the time I was looking at a 135i for the wife but traded in my 2004 325is coupe for the new 335i, that is how much I love this car!

I have 62,000kms on her now and did not have any problems with her(that I didn't create myself).

I never had an issue with the HPFP or the injectors, and I just had them replaced because of the recall.

So enjoy the ride, with the right mods you would enjoy it even more!

And if you are in the T.O. area come out to our meets and hang with the others that love the BMWs as much as I do!

And welcome to the community!

I'm sure you've read countless stories about the few issuses it can have (HPFP, injectors, wastegates), but the sheer driving experience makes it all more than worth it. Every time I get into the car and start it up I start smiling. To me, that alone is worth a couple trips to the dealer

The way I look at it, she (335) is one helluva expensive mistress to maintain. But she's gonna put a smile on your face like your girl(srt) never could!

Your only mistake is not getting the 135i over the 335i

J/K, you will love the car, easy decision.

The intake valves are another problem with n54, due to the direct injection.

People have carbon covered valves but this has not been considered an issue other than being dirty and maybe losing a little bit of horsepower due to turbulent airflow. It's not until recently people have brought this to light and there is no proof or evidence of engine problems.

My list of issues to worry about:

1 - HPFP
2 - Injectors/coil packs causing misfires
3 - Wastegate rattle

It's well worth the pain of having to take it in, which isn't that often.

Well say what you want but I had problems( surge at cruise or light load- which is a known problem) and after I took the intake off and cleaned the nasty valves, surge went away.

I would make sure that the car has a factory oil cooler to prevent overheating. Not all 335i's came with them so that's something to consider. Check this thread out on how to tell.

Any coupe with Sport package after 01/08 has the cooler. The carbon build up is a DI issue not a BMW issue, same all DI motors. The issues related to this particular car are the HPFP, wastegates which is another production year thing and the occasional misfires, injector issues. Is the car CPO? If so you're covered for an additional 2 years up to 100K on just about anything. Does anyone know if non US cars are covered by the extended HPFP warranty? OP is in the great white north.

Thanks guys, I've been doing a lot of research on it and I decided to get it, I'll be picking it up this weekend, it still has a 2 year warranty left on it and I got the option of extending if I want. They only want to give me 16,000 for my Caliber, LOL. I paid $36,000 for it when I bought it new in 08, I paid it off in 3 years. Kinda sucks, but that's it I guess.
