E92 - is anything changed since March'07 ??
Hi
Been lurking this site for a while now and two weeks ago placed my order for an E92 330d which should be delivered late April/early May. Anyway - I wondered if you know what, if anything, changed with the March update to BMW specs... e.g. ipod/usb link as default; any changes to fuel economy etc..?? Counting the days ;-) tp |

welcome
week 10: the ipod/usb appeared as an option. m-sport came out. i-drive now comes with 8 programable buttons. not sure what else i dont think there are any changes to the existing engines that were available. what spec did you go for? |

Yes that sounds about right for the March changes onwards. I've just taken delivery of my new E92 330d in Montego Blue but was just too early for the new stuff. Would have liked the programmable I-drive buttons, but that troubles me for about 3 milliseconds until I start the engine!
All I can say is what a superb machine the 330d is - you are in for a treat. I just can't wait to get past the advisory 1250 mile run in period so that I can really wind it up! |

the i-drive on the car i test drove was ok but it was sluggish. i'm test driving a new car soon so hopefully they have improved things.
let us know what you think of it. |

Thanks for the info: the car is manual, space grey, black dakota leather, 187 alloys, sunroof and hifi upgrade. Didn't opt for iDrive in the end - already got TomTom satnav so didn't see the need.
I'd read about new technologies such as the brake energy regeneration (??) which improved economy further. Wasn't sure if this was exclusive to new 5 series or whether it was now on the latest e92 timp |

here's some info on the brake energy regeneration
http://bimmeromania.blogspot.com/200...eneration.html claims 3% improvement in efficiency. It uses braking to fully charge the battery, not a powered alternator. the vid on this page shows it in an e90, so i assume it's also in the e92? |

not sure, don't know if you can get just the software or if it's part of an upgraded package that includes the shortcut buttons

its a firmware update, ie no change in hardware. BMW will only update ur s if u can prove that something is wrong. in otherwise, tell them it crashesm freezes..... they will then update.

so you can go to bmw, tell them the system crashes and they will make it exactly the same as the "new" iDrive but without the additional buttons?
might just have to do that |

Hmmm, my car has a history of crashing and freezing and one software update. In fact, it froze on Thursday.

dealers will not update for free as its time and cost for them. just moan a lot and say that it is unusable in its current way and they should upgrade the software. obviously dont mention the update as they will think you are blagging them. search main forum as to this in more detail......
