I want to hear my turbos! Any simple mods?
I'm sick of trying to accelerate past cars parked on the side of the street so the sound can reverberate back to hear my turbos spool up.
Any simple ways to increase the audible presence of the two turbos under the hood? And I would prefer no BOV's.. |

INTAKE + DOWN PIPE/STRAIGHT PIPES. A lot of my friends have it on their STI's it makes it sound so much better. I wish companies starting making intakes for the 335's.

I am not saying the STI's are loud with the air filter, I totally agree with you on your statements, I am saying that there is a big difference between these two cars suck the air to their turbos. The air filters on the WRX and STIs makes a whole lot more noise than an average turbo car. Carlos |

There is no downpipe created for this car yet and neither is a Air Intake.......both of those would create a louder turbo noise, on top of that, you should just wait for a TURBO BACK exhaust and that will really give you the sound you are looking for, just be patient |

Anyway, yes, a free-flowing intake (complete intake, not just an air filter) and a complete open exhaust would do the trick. But like has been mentioned, a full open exhaust isn't available for the 335i yet. I do understand the 335i has a small silencer on the intake that can be removed (do a search, I think it was in the DIY section) that would increase some of the intake noise. But always your biggest improvement to turbo spool noise will be an open exhaust. I don't understand how a BOV would make any difference in turbo spool noise. - LC

Lost cosmonaut. ^^no, that is not what I was saying. Also I don't know how you even think I am trying to downgrade a Subaru WRX/STI. No reason for .
I was just saying that removing the silencer on the front fender of the WRX makes the turbo sounds much much more. Carlos |

Just open your air box take your air filter out and leave it open and you will hear the spooling of the turbos, not the mention a "BOV" sound when you take your foot off the gas (poor mans BOV) lol. I did it on my Evo the first day i got it since i didnt have any mods for it yet, i only left it like that for about 5 min tho it was just for fun.

Oooh ooh! Make sure you drain all the oil out too. It's really thick and it robs alot of performance off. - LC

go into the idrive menu and set the little diamond button on the steering wheel as a radio mute button.
Push that button any time you want to hear the turbos. Honestly, my car is bone stock, and I can always hear the turbos when the radio is off. Of course, the turbos can't be heard from a mile away, but WTF, this is a BMW, not some boy racer ricer car with a park bench on the trunk and neon lights underneath. |
