Summer Road Trip

Guys and gals, wondering if you can provide some suggestions for places to stay/things to see and do for our summer road trip for the North-East Coast area. I think we're going to drive from Montreal and hit the Mt. Washington Auto Road and have some suggestions for that area. Then possibly Boston (that's as far South as we'd be going as our ultimate destination is New Brunswick, Canada). Maine is in play.

Travelling with the ol' ball and chain and two kids (6 and 8).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you're in Boston you can check out:
Faneuil Hall (freedom trail)
The North End (similar to little Italy in NYC with lots of Italian resturants)
Boston Common (mini version of Central park)
Charles Street (Beacon Hill neighborhood)
The bar, Cheers is a couple blocks down the street
Newburry St and Copley for shopping
Fenway Park in Kenmore Sq

You can go across the river to Cambridge to check out Harvard and MIT if that's your thing.
You can also try the Duck Tours, it'll take you around Boston for about $30-$40/person.
When you have a chance drive over to memorial drive and you can see the Charles river and Boston's skyline.

As for places to eat, it all depends on your budget.
Steak Houses try Ruth Chris it's walking distance from Faneuil Hall. Capital Grille it's on Newburry or Abe & Louie on boylston st
The North End for Italian
Chinatown (Jumbo Restaurant for dinner or China Pearl for Dim Sum)
Burgers try Bartley's Burger near Harvard University.

If the weather is nice try going for lunch at Top of the Hub at the Prudential, you'll get to see all of Boston. I wouldn't recommend going to dinner there but drinks/dessert there are alright too.

NH for tax free shopping and nice scenic drive to Kancamagus Hwy (not sure if there's much to see cause winter is near). Maine for lobsters and Kittery Outlet.

^^ those are all good ideas. Also, your kids seem the right age to check out the New England Aquarium in Boston, and the Science Museum.

Salem is a neat town for a quick stop, sorta reminds me of Cooperstown but with an ocean and a lot less baseball cards. If you want to check out Cambridge shoot me a PM and I can tell you some great spots for all sorts of restaurants on any budget. Enjoy sounds fun, and safe travels! Clark Griswold approves.

PS: I just lol'd at ur username.

in NH and VT you can go searching for covered bridges, kids might think it boring...but the roads you would be on to get to them are curvy and scenic.

I took my 1995 318ic up Mt. Washington, it's not for the faint of heart. There are no guard rails and some crazy looking drops. Plus at times the road is just barely wide enough for 2 cars to pass.

It is great once you get to the top. Also, bring jackets/sweatshirts even in summer time. It was 85 at the bottom and 45 at the top when I went.

Have fun.

HAH! I meant the OP's and that's even funnier. Nice that bring my Chinese vocab to 2 words, ni hao and peegoo.

I've been told my nick means "ass" in Russian also. That's not where it comes from though..

Now you can add a Russian word to your vocab too, toasty.
