Keep getting this same VANOS code, 5th time to dealer...

Ever since I got my JB+ I throw this code when I romp on it a few times. Last time they changed the oil as a fix and drove great but of course came back at 1/8 mile track. Its not a VANOS jammed code but this code still means its not working properly correct?

2A87:

Error will cause a warning light

I used to get that code even without a tune... it's Common. I changed my Vanos solenoids, and never got the code since (2 months now).I decided to change both of the, while I'm at it... Cheap fix

Does your car run better after you changed them?

Its a VANOS solenoid issue. The dealer should be very familiar with the code and the solution. Have they changed your solenoids in your previous visits?

I know I am not blaming JB+ at all as I love it Any tune brings out the weakness in your motor and this has been mine since I got the tune. This is my 5th time so hopefully they will actually replace them instead of just changing oil or cleaning them like in past. This code a minor issue compared to the jamming VANOS code?

Yes it does, but most importantly no more Limps! Tell them that you're done with cleaning and changing oil and that you want this fixed! It's a cheap fix. I bought both of them for ~260$ shipped... I could have bought one... the point being it's cheap and they should have already changed the part... Let us know what happens

Did you do the bypass that is recommended to prevent the ses light coming on and throwing codes. I'm assuming your running it at 100 percent.

Update* My service guys just called and what they did last time was replace the intake solenoid with the exhaust solenoid to see if the solenoid was the issue. Code came back for exhaust solenoid again after switch so he got the green light to replace the cam flaps or something within the exhaust side under the valve cover. Something about restricting the oil...?

How many miles? I am curious if these Vanos solenoid problems can potentially contribute to oil starvation on the top end. We've seen quite a few cam bearing issues on N54...

I did burn some oil a month ago but top end felt great after they swapped them out. I have 42K.

*Update*
Finally took car back in and they replaced exhaust solenoid with Camshaft bearing ledge and sealing seals. I think FP # is 11-36-7-585-425
Car is running decent.

Congrats! So your case was more advanced. The service bulletin mentioned that if changing oil and the solenoids doesn't fix it then it's the bearing ledge...

anyways at least you finally got rid of this issue

Thanks! Yeah they tried swapping the intake and exhaust solenoid at first then got the exhaust solenoid code again so went ahead and replaced it. We'll see if I get code again with the tune!
