Cobb 93 = Horrible gas mileage...
Okay, I just want to say the 93 octane map is brilliant. It has incredible power across all ranges, regardless of how much pedal you give your turbo's spool nicely and you get responsive POWERFUL get up and go, I'm no way bashing COBB as it is a wonderful tune and transforms our cars beautifully!
However... I do a lot of driving for work, mostly highway some city and for me gas mileage is important, especially when I drive my car very easy like anybody else mon - thur to work and back, then have fun on weekends or friday night. Stock the 335i gets insane gas mileage for the power, 110 - 115Km on highway I average 38 - 40 MPG with cruise control on or 30 - 33mpg going 125km - 130km During the city aggressive driving averaged around 20 - 22 Combined I would get about 600km to a bank before my light came on, even then I'd have another 100K before stauling empty When I installed 91V2.02 it was wonderful! big power boost, increased throttle response and gas mileage did not drop all that much.. Dropped about 1 - 2 mpg on the highway and very simalar gas mileage in the city. Then I switched to 93 octane v2.02 At first I wasn't even noticing gas mileage, I just couldn't believe how it transformed my car! It was Significantly quicker then 91 v2.02, throttle response was much crisper and I had significant boost regardless how little I pushed the pedal * was fun * so much fun it made me cringe thinking about switching back to 91 octane and wasting all of that fine potential... Now... I noticed the mileage about a week and a half ago, it was horrible... Cruise control on highway going 125km, where I would get 30 - 31 mpg with 91 octane, I would now get 24 mpg MAX with 93 octane..... City driving was even worse.. Where I use to average 600 to a tank I would get 380 - 400 MAX. A week ago when I filled up I drove it like a complete grandma, trying to get the best gas mileage possible, I kept my monitor on active MPG and what I noticed is that Regardless of how slow you accelerate, and even if you give it 1 mm of gas pedal movement the car spools so much un nessesary boost it registers 6 - 7 mpg! the SECOND you have to move your car forward to accelerate at all it was right off the bat 6 mpg... This created horrible gas mileage and made me realize, as fun as it is I DONT like how my car constantly runs such high boost... even if I want to cruise, take it easy and get good mileage I have no choice but to have the car boost if I'm even giving it the slightest amount of gas, hence why the gas mileage is permanently bad... Its like an M5, I'm always in at least in strong boost even while I'm on cruise control so it eats my gas. Maybe my COBB is F**? I don't know... I DONT want to go back to 91 octane quite yet and give up the potential power when I WOT, but i DO want a easier going less responsive car for the daily commute to work and back when I'm not trying to boost or drive hard, and at-least get another 100 - 150K from my tank. I'm going to try 93 octane V2.02 V2 and see if that helps, I'm hoping that with 5,10,15,20% throttle I'm not boosting to the nines and can accelerate or pull away from a light without destroying gas mileage, yet still allowing me to go WOT if some jack ass in a ferrari 360 pulls up next to me revving his engine with a blonde bimbo that looks like a horse in the drivers seat, wearing burgundy UGLY lipstick that never suited her skin tone in the first place and wearing fake prada shoes... I'll keep everybody updated with my thoughts after cruising tomorrow and the next day. If that doesn't work I'll have to map back to 91V2.02, I may even try 91V2.02 V2 and see. 90% of the time I drive my car easy and aside from the INSANE handling it feels no different then a civic, the whole idea is so I'm not in boost and saving gas.. No point driving that easy if I'm still getting 6MPG every time I move the car... |

u get 40mpg on highway??????? i get like 5 hahaha. its all on how u drive. i think that if your on cruise control even if u have a tune your not using any of the extra power so i dont see why your fuel consumption would be worse

Didn't you just recently get the Cobb and start datalogging?
If this was me and I had serious concerns with gas mileage, I would start by forgetting about the real time MPG calculations. I would then start back to uninstalled, then try stock map, 91, and 93. 4 full tanks might be overkill and I don't know about your patience, but I would run half tank tests for each (burn to half, refill, rinse and repeat). All the while trying to keep things as constant as possible (octane, driving conditions, etc). |

I am impressed by what people get for mpg with their 335s. When I try hard to maximize fuel economy I can get 22mpg max. That's with a 35 mph average. I have a manual xi. What am I doing wrong?

First, for the Cruise control debate. Every day I have 35km of highway driving outside of the city. I can GUARANTEE at least what I see in my car is 24mpg highway with cruise control, with NO changes in how I drive, where is I get 32 - 33 with STOCK, and 30 - 31 with 91 octane.
Secondly, what I was trying to advise is that in my case with the 93 octane map there is no driver error period. the SECOND you give it any kind of throttle to accelerate the boost is strong enough to create about 6mpg during even the slowest acceleration, I could not believe it! I work 5 days a week, I was referring to friday nights when I drive to my buddies or around the city and have fun for 30 minutes. Something is causing the 93 octane tune for me to burn fuel like crazy. I swapped back to 91 octane yesterday for my drive to work, instantly loved the additional gas mileage, but hated the fact it did not have the same sort of power at WOT.. I'll have to try V2 version and see how that goes. As far as gas mileage, if I got 18mpg or 400 km to a tank from day one, this would not bother me! But knowing I use to average 600km to a tank and I could save 80 - 100 a month on gas it drives me nuts spending all this extra money, especially when I'm not even using the tunes potential 5 days a week. I have a trillion dollars in debt I'm trying to pay off over the next 2 years so I care about an extra 100 a month! Not sure if anybody else has noticed this issue between 91 octane and 93? I may go for a spin tonight and see how she drives on V2. I have had 1 tank of 91 tune, and 2 tanks of 93 tune. 91 tune * even with driving excitedly since it was the first time I installed it got 580km! * 93 tune driving like a grandma 400.. |

I noticed a slight loss in mileage around town but no difference on the hwy. I routinely do 70 mph and get 27 mph on the hwy . Around town i get 19 to 22 mpg depending on how pedal happy i am.

I'm training at a CIBC branch in Central alberta to become a branch manager, so my work commute consists 95% highway miles where I average 130km - 140km Gas mileage is pure sex stock and with cruise control! I remember once wen I drove to castle mountain and back during ski season, I think I got 807KM out of my tank before my gas light came in!!!!!!!!!!!! Better highway mileage then my 2002 Civic SIR when I had it. Now the gas mileage is just as bad as my old skyline... that puppy had so much boost the person I sold it to crashed and blew up the engine.. * I miss her * |

I've got 308 mi on this last tank and still have about 5/8 left. I'm on v202 93oct and driving like a bitch but getting good mileage. Make sure you're at or slower the other cars around you and your mileage will be fine. The problem is that it's too easy to be first all of the time.

So, what you are saying is that to get more power out of an engine of a given size, making no physical modifications it requires more fuel....I never would have guessed.

Don't feel too bad .. I just burned almost 20$ on a 30 minute logging session
Ah well, still miles cheaper than a hooker, and there is no chance of catching anything. |

Good mpg and power usually doesn't go together.
With the Cobb my mpg def went down but that is expected. You have to pay for that nice safe AFR some how When I was running v201 93 map the most I could get my average mpg to read was 28 and that was cruising on the highway going about 70 with little to no boost. No matter what I did during that drive it would not go any higher. Alan

Just tested V2.02 V2 93 octane.
Wow, What a totally different car.. or should I say Cars! 0 - 30% throttle, 0 - 3k rpm super smooth, easy, entry level BMW, great gas mileage and perfect for light commuting * D * mode 3 - 5k rpm * DS * mode, very responsive, more power then stock, fun for a weekend warrior 5 - 7.2krpm WOT * DS * mode, @*&#^@*&^#@*^ I drove about 30K, instantly I averaged 23mpg all in city / community driving, thats also a combination of WOT, DS mode and D cruising! I now can actually put around easy without spooling the turbos and flying forward, if I'm at a stop turning right in traffic, or I need a little extra something something I just pop it into DS mode then it instantly feels more like the stock 93 V2.02 std map, and definiately makes it responsive without going balls to the walls and cranking the turbo's. Then... if some yahoo thinks he's hot stuff and wants to race, just floor it! I swear it felt even quicker then STD V2.02 93 octane. now THIS I can live with. DS mode seems to actually be drivable and won't completely drain your tank like the STD v2.02 wanted to do when you gave it ANY bit of gas.... Great gas mileage when you are just cruising as the turbos wont automatically spool to 222222 PSI, and the power is still there when you want to floor it. I also feel that if its 30 degrees outside, or you are worried about going hard on your turbos all the time if you don't have an FMIC this is a great map choice! 95% of your commute will be as hard on your vehicle as a stock 335i tune, yet if you pop it into DS and really give her 60% more throttle you'll get a quick boost of massive gobs of power without over working your turbos. With the std V2.02 map I felt like my turbos were over working even if I gave it 3% throttle.. Hense why my gas mileage was f** horrific. I'll do my full work commute tomorrow and see how she does on the highway with this tune. I was on a quite road and quickly got up to 120, popped it into cruise control and saw about 35mpg I'll see if that is consistent tomorrow. I do think the PERFECT tune will be 65 - 70% V2 map and 30% std V2.02. If cobb ever gets it right after getting the rest of us folk Stage 2! I'm haapy |

I've been wanting to test this myself. I run the 93 map 2.02 (standard) on my 6MT and am doing a 5+ hour trip tomorrow, all highway. Stock I used to average 27-29 mpg for that trip, depending on how fast I felt like going that day.
If the 93 2.02 map is bad on the way there, I might try the 91 map on the 5 hour ride back just to compare. Result should be pretty solid with 10 hours of highway driving...

How did the gas mileage turn out? I have to switch back to v.202 V2, had it on STD again last night because it just doesn't have enough power to get up and go without WOT..
I may switch back to 91 octane and try that, may be the best choice between power and good gas mileage. |

I've had pretty poor mileage on the 91 map (though I'm running 93 octane fuel) since installing it yesterday. In fact, I burned through a quarter tank in about 35 miles. I was chasing after this guy, though
