Question for iPod users

Debating whether to get the Nano or a HDD based iPod. One of my concerns with the full sized iPod is the life of the HDD. Anyone have problems with the HDD's in their cars dealing with shock, and/or temperature extremes? Summer will be here soon and my car is black-on-black.

My (3rd gen) iPod has been in my glovebox for nearly two years and I have no problems with it.

I have been using the 8gb nano with ipod integration and it rocks. I really love it.

I have the 5th gen. 30 GB video iPod. Battery life is terrific, and I leave the backlight on constantly when using it in my car.

You can get the ipod adaptor. This way you can leave your ipod in your golvebox and lock it for security reasons, and it will not get too hot.

I leave mine in the jogging armband that I have to help cushion it some, and I have not had a problem at all with the ipod after about 2 years...

Temperature extremes will lower battery life.

I've had 3rd, 4th, and 5th gen iPOD's... all HDD and truthfully, HDD SUCKS!!!!

The problem is that its SLOW compared to the NANO... I bought my dad the NANO for christmas and its 100x faster. Not only that, but my 4th gen iPOD's HDD died on me and I had to get it replaced (hence, the 5th gen iPOD I have now).

Pro's for HDD: Lots of space (so you can pick unlimited songs that suit any mood), video (pretty much worthless, actually)
Con's for HDD: SLOW startup, crashes, unreliable

Really, I want to get RID of my video iPOD and get a nano... soooo much better...

oh, also I have problems with the HDD and temperatures <40degreesF. The screen doesn't work properly and it freezes up (thats when I leave the iPOD in the car overnight and it freezes). But i just sit on it for like 10 min and it works after warming up (don't hate...)

actually that brings up a con for the nano, if you sit on it and you weigh >150lbs, it'll break HAHA

I have an 80GB attached to a DLO Transpod in my Z4. Never any issues. I went with the 80GB because it fits my entire CD collection @ a decent bit rate. The nano hardly holds anything unless you rip @ 128kbps

When I get my 335 the iPod will stay in service, but the Transpod will go

Yeah, mine too. Now I'm gonna have to buy a new iPod cuz it won't work with the 3rd gen models (luckily I get them at cost).

with the Ipod still connected to the Ipod adapter in the glove box, would the Ipod turn off when the car when the car turns off?
