BOV Necessary?
Just wondering if an aftermarket BOV is necessary for our cars?
once COBB comes out with there stage 2 tune, the boost will be quite high! Will a BOV increase performance or help the car in any way? Or is it just a gimmick for sound? Not sure if the sound would even be noticeable on a Steptronic tranny? |

You won't be able to hear it over your straight pipe exhaust anyway.

Either a BOV or upgraded DV's will be able to hold higher levels of boost better than the stock DV's. But to answer your question, No, just adding a BOV will not increase power. You will hear it on the AT when you let off the gas pedal.

I would upgrade the charge pipe though, either way you go. The metal pipes seem to help with throttle response as opposed to the stock rubber/baffled hose. .02 |

Yep, got a Tial BOV for the sake of not having to worry about my weak DV's leaking. ETS didn't have an option for DV's or I would have probably gone that route. On an AT car the sound isn't noticeable unless you are purposely goosing it and letting off.

Was not sure if the stock BOV was sufficient or if I really should look into a new BOV.
Thanks for the info guys. I read somewhere that Charge pipes were not necessary.. People are starting to think they are needed as well!? |

you read wrong, as i said..its been tested that anything over 14ish psi and you are going to have a slight leak from the stock DV's. they werent designed to hold boost over 6-8psi. If you have a tune you are asking them to hold twice as much psi as they were designed to hold...

The main difference between the two is that DV's divert/dump the air back to the charge pipe, your stock set up. Blow off valves, on the other hand release/dump the air into the atmosphere not the charge pipe, creating the wossshh sound. Some people like the sound, some don't...

I got a Tial 50mm BoV for the sound. There's no performance difference between bov and dv.
