My idea for an exhaust...who will make it...Stett?
Here is my idea for an exhaust. I'm a greedy person. I not only want my cake and want to eat it, I want your cake and your kids cake too . So my exhaust needs to be calm, quiet, and refined when I start my car in the morning, when I am cruising in a parking garage, or when I go out on a date. But when I put my foot in it I want to wake the dead, scare little children, and give old ladies a heart attack . So here is my idea for an exhaust, who wants to make it?

There is someone on this forum who used electrically controlled mufflers. Search They had a solenoid that bypassed the resonation chambers with the push of a button.

RSD makes an exhaust with electrically controlled cut-outs. I think there is a member on the forum using it.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=397953 Also others have had the same idea by just welding electrical cut-outs to their existing exhaust. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=397016 Last edited by BoostedE90; 05-19-2011 at 11:24 AM.. |

Adding cutouts to my stock exhaust won't work...I want it to bypass the mufflers, not dump noxious fumes under my car for me to breathe. With the stock exhaust setup this is not possible. |

I definitely understand the concern of breathin toxic fumes but byoung8's setup it right before his mufflers. Unless your sitting still with the cut-outs open I can't see the fumes being an issue. I would PM and ask him if he notices any fumes. But his setup looks pretty legit.

I've run cut outs before & never had any fume issues & this was on big V8s. Fumes are a non issue. If you like to waste $, go with your route. |

^ That will cost you a good $2,000 + for just the mufflers. Your best and cheapest solution, get some 3" catless downpipes, put an electric cut-out on your stock exhaust right after the dp flange....problem solved. Loud and powerful when you want it, otherwise stock sounding when you don't.

This is the M3 solution as referenced previously. I'm going to talk to Stett about doing both options and seeing what the price is. I have a feeling this option is going to be WAY cheaper and not have many drawbacks...so I'm probably going to have them do this:

Any other options (like the OP) are making things expensive & complicated for no reason. Manual or electric cut out & call it a day, folks. |
