HELP! 12v Accessory fuse in fusebox for aftermarket radio harness?
Hi guys,
I've installed a couple Pioneer double din units in my previous vehicles (Aviator, Altima) and now I'm looking to do the same in my 06' 325i. I went and purchased all the necessary equipment including a Metra 70-9003. Now I've connected harnesses before with no issue, but this one is a little bit different. It has a seperate red wire to be connected to a 12v accessory source (for when the key turns on, or pushbutton is pushed in my case). The instructions say to run the red wire to the fuse box and connect it to the 12v accessory fuse there. In order to do that I went ahead and purchased an "Add a Circuit" http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002BGELQ So I went and looked in the fuse box but instead of labeling it "Accessory or 12v ACC" or something there are just pictures. It would be incredibly helpful if someone with previous experience using this harness could help me figure out exactly which fuse I should be tapping for this red wire. Homelink fuse is powered only on ignition on. The stock radio works without the ignition on but on accessory mode, and you will lose this if you wire to the homelink. Not sure of any fuses that are powered only on accessory mode, but just start probing if having the radio only on with ignition bothers you.

Thanks for the info, could you specify for me which fuse # I should tap then?
Or which picture on the fuse diagram it should be? I wish they just used words :/ |

Well if you want it switched with ACC power (on with ignition, 2 presses of the start button, foot OFF brake/clutch) tap the cigg lighter leads.
If you want it to turn on with the car radio, you'll need to find a signal that turns on with the radio......which will be hard because the radio, amps are given power with a user activated circuit. But they don't actually power on until the most bus tells it to. Most bus is fiber optic..... You can try the 12v lead for the fan in the sirius module....not sure how that turns on though but I know some have used it for a REM lead. |

I just installed my pioneer headunit using the metro harness. The red wire is used to tap into a 12v fuse that turns on when the ignition is on.
The red wire comes with a golden tap that plugs into the female part of the red wire. From there locate the cigarette lighter fuse. The golden tap goes in with the fuse. Hard to explain but you will see how it'll go together. Hopefully this helps. I'll try to take a picture on my day off. |

Can you post some pics of this red wire install to the fuse box? I am also doing an after market radio in a BMW x3 2007 and it has the same harness to be used.

Get a add a fuse and put it in to the OBII fuse and it will work. I was having the same problem on mine and did that and haven't had a problem since.
