HELP! Car's acting up!

Hi All,

Not sure what's going on with my car, but i'll explain and hopefully some of you will have some ideas as to what the problem could possibly be.

I was driving to NYC last night...music loud and cruising. All the sudden the speakers start to crack (speakers sounded blown almost), music shuts off for a second and comes back on.........and here come the lights on the dashboard. Something about the ABS as well as the Braking system malfunction. But...seconds later everything disappears and the car goes back to normal. This happened about 5 times last night but everytime it happened, the lights on the dash would disappear and the car would go back to normal.

NO CLUE what this could possibly be...and i have a BT Cable, but it's in Philly at my friends house. Won't be able to scan the car till tomorrow (Saturday).

Some info about the car at the moment: JB3 is out (took it in for service recently and still didnt have a chance to reinstall it). BMS DCI are installed, as well as cyba scoops. I pulled the plug in the trunk for the exhaust mod a couple of weeks ago. That's all...none of these sound like they should be causing this type of issue.

ANY HELP would be appreciated.

That's what i was thinking. Last week i washed the car and had the car "On," but not started for a while so i can listen to music while i washed the car...everytime it turned the music off, i would turn it back to "on"...i'm guessing that probably took some out of the battery.

It might be your steering column sensor. I had the same thing happen to my car. It would come and go until it stayed on and I took it in and they fixed it under warranty.

Hmm...i just had 2 alignments done recently...maybe that caused it? UGH this is very confusing! Never had anything happen like this before.

It happens. I blame it on driving on a dirt road but I was like it was only for like 1/2 a mile and it wasn't that bad. The SA told the sensor just went dead. If your still under warranty just take it back to the dealer.

Yea i'm still under warranty...i'm going to scan the car ASAP and figure it out from there. So a bumpy ride did that to your sensor? I'm in North Jersey...can be pretty bumpy...as well as NYC where i was last night.

I thought the bumpy ride did it, but the SA told me the car can handle those roads and more. He just said the sensor went bad. I did some research and I wasn't the only one that had the same problem. Couple people said it randomly showed up. I wouldn't even scan it, if all you have is a DCI and your JB3 is not plugged in, just take it in, and have the dealer will scan it for you.

I had a similar situation with the radio as the op. I left my car parked at a friends place and we all went out one night. When I got back to my car around 2am or so, started her up, and was waiting for the idle to settle. Then all of a sudden the radio went blank, the speakers made a cracking noise, and it scared the crap out of me. There were no lights on the dash that popped up or any sort of error code in my ecu. It was very weird, but it hasnt happened ever since that time, which was about 3-4 months ago.

Very weird! Too much technology in our cars i think. I'm hoping it's something that can be fixed. Didnt like it at all!

ABS malfunction light with out of the blue is sign of something wrong with the charging system...So its either a battery going bad or needs to be charged, or one of the terminals on the battery is loose and needs to be tightened...I went through this issue, so check your battery terminals to make sure they are tight, then check the amps on the battery

Can you test amps... test the voltage, test with a multimeter before you start the car, it should read 12.7 volts I believe and should go up after you start the car due to the alt.. Also add another ground to the battery and see if this remedies the problem, BMWs always have trouble with their elec, esp the charging sys.

I got the ABS light , DSC codes, Moonroof codes (short circuit), and radio issues (volume would go out)when my battery was going. I had a failing light weight battery in the car (braille 21lb). I charged up the original battery, put it in the car and all the symptoms went away.

My best guess would be your battery is marginal at best.

I had the same exact symptoms, but in my other car. The problem was the alternator went bad. I had to change the alternator, battery, and upgraded my grounds. Since your under warranty, the dealer should take care of everything. It could also be a simple loose ground somewhere, pita to search and find.

Took the car in for service today...they said they were unable to fully diagnose the problems with the car. They want to hold on to it for another day to look into it some more.

Should i be worried at all? (Considering i had a tune in there in the past and had to clear codes once before)
