I honestly dont know if i have a boost leak
I had downpipes as well as a new fmic installed just last week first off. Now between all of the air flow sound made by an aspirated motor with high flow parts im a bit thrown off. Lol so bare with me. Its not the sound of the DCI's thats the suck and release sound, used to that. Then there's the slight slight whistle of the turbos spoiling now since the dp's, but one more loud sound that i dont think i should be hearing. A loud blowin hiss when i Hit boost. honestly, closest thing i can match it to is lol, paper tearing loud almost, or the pssst pssst sound people often use to call a cat.. idk thats just best i can describe it. maybe ive lost some torque on WOT too. besides the slight turbo spool sound and the suck and blow of the intakes, should i be hearing this loud heavy blowing sound when boosting??? as far as i knoe i really shouldnt. thanks

Downpipes do make the turbo spool much more noticeable. I heard the same thing, after I installed mine, so I would say its normal. Still check you intercooler connections to be sure they are tight, but I think the sound is normal. Are you hitting your target boost?

I hear that as well but its only very apparent with the windows down, radio off, and when there is a wall, trees, or something to reflect the sound from the passenger side. Checking your boost will be the first step. If you are hitting boost but you still believe there is a leak, you could log wastegate DC. That would tell if your turbos are boosting higher to compensate for the leak. I don't really know what to look for though with the wastegates, so maybe someone with a little more experience with that could chime in and help.

Deja Vu. I did the same thing! Installed intercooler and downpipes around the same time frame. Just to give you some tips, the V-band clamp connecting the turbo and DP together tends to get loose after you first install it. It happened to me. Since you already have a boost gauge you'll know if there's a boost leak or not. If there's a drop in boost then you'll have to play around with your IC hoses and clamps.

when I got my catless dps, fmic and dci - I was surprised at the additional sounds... I took it back to check for leaks too... more exhaust sound when cold though...
now, I love the sound. It sounds like power !!

just took the car out. spiking at just barely 15psi. i have that map set to peak boost of 16.5 psi. is that about right. or should i be seeing dead on 16.5 on that fuel gauge. keep in mind this is through the v5 software using my fuel gauge as psi. idk how accurate thats supposed to be but 'technically' im 1.5-2psi short.... good or no good

read the thread... you have to set MAX higher than the START BOOST and the START BOOST is the max boost you are going to get. Try it, I have to do that today too.

OOHhh lol. so with my start boost at 50% and max boost at 16.5 im really only gonna hit 15psi tops. thus explaining why im only hitting 15 on mu boost gauge. so. ill set start at 65% (16.5) and Max at lets say 17.5. sound okay? DaFish, thank you. that answers what i needed..

Sounds like those sounds are normal. Make sure you go over the instructions of all beta maps there is important information in there regarding which aspects of the tunes are disable and enabled and any little quirks. I recommend upgrading to the 5-10 maps. 5-10 has auotune ON (as read only) so it still wont make adjustments. It wont be for the next couple updates when autotune will be fully enabled again. |

Separate issue, I'm only boosting 8-9 psi, tried switching maps and no change.
What are other areas to check when boost is low (besides intercooler and charge pipe connections)? I know boost will be lower at high rpm because of the elevation in Denver, but I'd usually see 14-15psi from 3-5K rpm on the fuel boost gauge in the past. |
