72k miles....time to replace shocks?
Daily driving is pretty much all city/suburban driving. I do take the car on average once every month or two on a long trip (7+ hours roundtrip). Y'all think shocks should be replaced by now? They do seem to be noticeably looser than before....or is that just in my mind?

If you want a stock set, I have my 09 suspension parts in my basement with about 1000miles on them.

I am in a similar situation. An 06 with sports package suspension and 62k on the clock. I have heard everything from "don't replace your shocks until they fail the bounce test" to "replace them every 50-60k because by then they will have lost most of their useful dampening ability and your car won't corner/handle like it should".
Is there a noticeable improvement/restoration in handling replacing shocks around this mileage? Are other suspension components likely on their way out as well that I should look for? Or are those longer lasting? Mine seems to feel a little soft in the bends lately, like more body roll - it doesn't push back as much. Would that be expected at 60k with original shocks? Of course I could be imagining things as well. |

I just replaced my dampers with MSport ones from the last generation of performance suspension. The difference was not earth shattering but I did notice a more planted feeling in corners, especially when the road is bumpy. I replaced my factory sport package at 62k, reusing the factory springs and replacing the sway bar bushings with new factory parts. Overall, everything feels more crisp.

I noticed my sport pkg struts/shocks going off at 70K mls, and I replaced them at 75K. I would not have wanted to have kept them on longer than that.

You keep the original springs? Replace with stock ZSP shocks/struts? Was anything else bad at that point? How much did it cost in total to get this done?

I did other suspension mods, but not because the components had to be replaced now (the M-sport 14 mm rear sway made a big difference in the handling, highly recmd.) I did the installs myself, so just the cost of the parts above ~$400 and alignment $80. Last edited by AlanAZ; 06-15-2011 at 11:12 AM.. |

I see that tischer ran out of their deal on the old performance suspension. Is there anyone who still sells this version? I am curious because I noticed the new kit lowers the car more, and I'm not really looking to do that. Is the new one that much better?

why are you replacing parts that dont need to be replaced?
if you DO replace them, get something OTHER than stock. you'll be much happier. |
