Which Forged Wheels are strong?

Ok I've had enough of you guys showing off your rims and cars. I've decided Im going to get myself a set. I've been following this forum for almost a month now, but havn't really posted. I've done all sorts of research such as price, different type of finishes and customer service and so forth. One thing that kind of bothers me is the people who claim vibrations and bent rims. I know there are a bunch of you cheerleaders here who are just promoting for companies. I need honest opinion on which wheels are solid and strong. I like HRE 840R, Ifoged Daytona, DPE S10. From what I gather in internet as well as forum searches - HRE have vibration problems in the rain, Iforged have bad customer service; problem with uneven powdercoat finished; and bent rims, DPE seems to be pretty clean except for the fact that some people claim the wheels seem cheap and made from China. I'm kind of stuck. I don't really know anyone personally with any of these rims to ask them for their honest opinions, and some of these forum talks are scary. Literally people have such nasty horror stories from some of these companies Im scared. These wheels are not cheap, I dont want to get screwed if you know what I mean. Any input would be helpful.

Check out the thread under this one, they are talking about different types of materials used in the construction of these wheels. Maybe a few of these companies are trying to cut cost and use cheaper grade forged aluminum and that is why some reports of bent or cracked rims. I personally don't own a set so I do not want to comment.

I can tell you from personal experiance. I had ifoged sprints 3 peice and the front left rim cracked. They wanted $300 to replace and said it was my fault because the tire preasure was low. Ridiculous headache dealing with them...

Keep in mind that no matter how strong they are, we are talking about very low profile tires on these wheels in all cases where the wheel diameter is greater than 18". No matter WHAT process is used to manufacture the wheels, there is very little rubber and air protecting the wheel from 2 tons of weight and the forward momentum of the car if it hits a curb, a pothole, or anything solid.

With smaller wheels and fatter tires, the tire deforms and acts as a cushion for the wheel-- with the low profile tires, there's a lot less cushioning, so if you abuse them or run into a pothole, you ARE going to damage them.

That being said, while forged wheels are stronger than cast wheels, they are also less dense (and therefore lighter), so if you do something that will damage a set of cast wheels, it'll also likely do damage to forged wheels.

No miracle material-- it's still aluminum or some other metal, and it will deform under sufficient load.

ALL the wheel manufacturers you mention have solid offerings, just don't be fooled into believing that a forged wheel will survive something that would destroy a cast wheel. The differences in strength are not that huge, and whatever differences there were have been sacrificed for lighter weight and improved performance NOT increased resiliency to abuse.

Multi-piece wheels done right will most always be strongest - and an added bonus is that just the outer rim can be replaced in case of a bend/crack/etc ($300), whereas with monoblock forged wheels (which are most always going to be lighter) you would have to replace the entire wheel ($700+)...

Because of the very little amount of meat around the rim it is extremely important the material used on the rim shell of the wheel. You are correct in saying nothing can survive some potholes if met at right speeds. But in most cases you are more likely to meet the small ones that might not bend your rim into an oval shape, but possibly make a small din that can eventually cause leaks which will soon blow out your $200 tires. Those small dins can be prevented with higher grade T6-6061 forgins vs. T5-5054. The question is who uses what and are they mixed and matched to cut cost or are they really here to provide us enthusiets with the highest quality wheels.

Buy the wheels you really want.. Why does it matter if DPE was made in china? People have a bad rep of china production shitty products when almost everything you see in any electronic stores now are made in china..Plus rims are just forged aluminum (same raw material)... They DO NOT make bad products if they have someone checking their quality control.

thx

Consider Volk.

DPE/HRE or Iforged are more in the boutique wheel category and have a nice look to most of them.
