I took my 09 m3 to Livingston Collision in Livingston, NJ to get my trunk repainted after it went through snow damage this past winter.

They had a good reputation as a body shop here and carries a hefty price tag for their work.

This Tuesday is the 3rd time I took the car back to the shop because of the paint job they did on my trunk.

Livingston Collision was very unfriendly, each time i went back to ask them to fix their work its as if I am asking them to do me this huge favor.

4/9- during the first paint job, there were many uneven surfaces which they said was due to their paint booth been down. They took the car back to repair the paint.

-$150 cost for car rental during this time.

4/15- New car paint started to bubble (50+ of them). They decided to repaint the trunk.

-$100 cost for car rental.

4/25- car paint start to show pits, pinholes and sands embedded in the paint.

-5/24- Took the car back to them to re-re-repair the paint job.

-$125 cost for car rental.

-5/27- This is what I got back with today. I f*king gave up, I have had it. Majority of the defects still there with the new addition of a new dent from the screw driver they used to remove my BMW emblem.

Please give me an idea if these clear coat chips (?) and the pinholes can be corrected by other body shop? will the clear coat start to peel off if i leave it as it is? do i need to repaint the whole trunk?

ps. there are at least 30 of those clear coat chips (?) and 7 of those 'holes'.

how does your trunk have swirl marks already if it is fresh paint??

Small claims IF you took pics each time. That will help you recover the rental costs.

there are also blisters on the paint which I havent photograph yet.

i dont know if small claim is going to have much effect.

this was a recommended install shop from this forum (NJ/NY/CY area), so it is not Maaco by any means.

im totally speechless. i have taken too many days off from work to drop this car off, pick up the car, drop off the car again, pick up rental car and drop it off and back and forth.

these people arent exactly friendly to deal with. i give up. There is no justice anymore.

i had my bumper repaired along with my trunk paint job by them, long story short, the bumper repair was another $500 down the toilet. I will have that completely re-done by Alex at Akmotorwerk hopefully next week.

Anyone can give me some advise on how to correct this paint job? or I need to take it to another place to repaint it?

Excellent question. I dont know why they do that.

after they finished the car today, they parked the car under a tree and the birds used it as poop dropping practice (under 90 degree sun). I spent my entire Friday evening just trying to remove them (many poop stain still remains).

i don't know if this is them being passive-aggressive or some sort of retaliation against me for keep bringing the car back to them.

I think the best thing you can do is take your car to MAC or AK Motorwerk, and take the body shop that did the work to small claims court. That's embarrassingly bad.

Alternatively, I live in NJ (in Union county) and my primary dealership is JMK BMW (both me + dad haven't had problems with them yet), and Morristown BMW (it's easy for me to drop in after school). People rave about Morristown BMW; I don't know if they have a paint shop, but if they do, they'll give you a loaner, and I guarantee you they'll do the job right.

Yep JMK and Morristown FTW. JMK has a body shop- Ken Park always took great care of me there.

Yeah, both dealerships are great. OP, you should get in touch with them.

I will go to both MAC and JMK BMW to get a quote on tuesday. I will also try and dispute the charges today with my credit card company.
