SES engine lights blues (Part 2)
On my way back from Montreal, my engine lights lit. I got the following code:
12160, 10720, 10721, 10740, 10741. FYI: I am running Procede V5. Last month I got the 10720 and 10721 codes, the dealer replaced the fuel injectors. Any idea what's going on? Maybe Shiv can chime in here...... Are those codes false alarms??? Thank You |

Just replaced the secondary O2 sensors last night, will let you know in a few days if that fixes the 10720 and 10721 codes.
No idea on those other codes, you should post up the code description if available. |

12160 -> Motor shutoff time, plausibility
10720 -> Fuel Mixture Control 1 10721 -> Fuel Mixture Control 2 10740 -> catalytic converter 1 inefficiency 10741 -> catalytic converter 2 inefficiency By the way, I have those UR high flow catted downpipes. |

Thanks for the prompt response, Shiv....
I am not running any O2 sim/modifier. I didn't change any of the O2 variables on your map. Should I change any O2 variable on your map? If so, what percentage should I put? 12160 -> Motor shutoff time, plausibility still puzzles me...any idea what it is? Could my O2 sensors on their way out? Quote:

A while back Shiv recommended removing the O2 Sim wiring from the harness. Have you done that yet? Did you buy your Procede as a V5?

No. I didn't remove anything. I bought the Procede back when it was v4.
Also that error code 12160 -> Motor shutoff time, plausibility doesn't give me any clue at all. Last edited by clairvoyant; 05-29-2011 at 02:32 PM.. |

Note even when my car had stock downpipes, the 10720/1 codes showed up with V4. Now with catless downpipes, V5, and the harness update, plus new primary O2 sensors, HPFP, and injector recall (but no injectors replaced), car still gets those codes.
We'll see if new rear sensors fixes this. Are you still under warranty? I'd like to see what the dealer says the cause is. I'm out of warranty, so trying to fix on my own. |

I am still under the warranty but paranoid if the dealer can trace those codes to my Procede.
Did you take off your Procede when you went to the dealer? At this point, I am trying to narrow down the cause first (if the codes are induced by the tune or BMW malfunctions). Plus, I have the UR catted high flow downpipes which was frown upon by the dealer. Quote:

I took the car to the dealer, they told me those codes are caused by the car running too lean. They said the DCI and the exhaust cause the car to run lean. I have a BMS DCI and UR high flow cat downpipes.
The BMS DCI and UR high flow cat downpipes have been there since 2008 and have never caused any problem. What should I do beyond this point? Should I just leave the Procede v5 out for awhile and see what will happen? |

Shiv, perhaps you can chime in here.
These engine lights didn't appear when it was still Procede V4. However they started to appear after I upgraded to Procede v5. I turn on the CanClear ON all the times but those codes appear. Supposedly all 4 O2 sensors are fine. The dealer "tested" them already. Is there anything else I need to do? Shall I downgrade back to Procede V4? Thank You |

Do you also have a 2007? Early DME software still?

1. Do the harness update as explained in a thread from shiv
2. Upload latest beta maps following the instructions 3. Clear all adaptations.

Do you hear your low pressure pump whirring when you unlock the car? thats one of the preventive measure taken by BMW to counter failed HPFP

The saga of "car running lean" followed by SES lights (the same codes) has been going on forever.
Which O2 sensors should I replace first (to test the running lean issues)? Before or after the downpipe catalytic converters? Thank You |

check for exhaust leaks right after the downpipe. If theres a leak, its possible air from outside will get in and the sensor will see extra o2 and thus a lean condition. That could be one issue that could cause it. Other than that I would go with the rear ones first. I havnt fully solved this yet but i suspect the rear o2 sims to be the cause...

Are you talking about exhaust leaks between the waste gates and the downpipes?
I already checked with "the tennis balls" trick but so far no leak presents. I wish there are definite SES codes that indicate O2 sensor damages, etc, etc rather than second guessing all the way through this $h1t. Quote:
