Afe Intake 328i Coupe

i just installed an afe stage 2 cold air intake on my car and came across a problem and i was looking through forums and a solution that was brought up was either install it without the housing, cutting a piece of the heat shield or remove the strut bar. i ended up cutting a portion of the heat shield it works fine but i was browsing through other forums and it said that i might be losing on some hp or torque is this true? i don't feel a difference personally

i wouldnt worry about it... you never gained any real hp in the first place anyways over stock intake.

but to answer your question, they must be talking about heat soaking your intake. since heat shield is to block heat... and since you have cut the shield, the heat leaks in. therefore making your intake suck in hot air rather than cold... or cooler air i should say. which in turn could make you lose a few hp.

if i remember correctly... its +1 hp per every -10 degrees.

cutting

as long as you can cut into the heat shield or drill a hole or whatever you can do just to get the front to fit along with the strur bar it will work I would not recommend not running a strut bar, make sure its secured tho i forgot to but one of the nuts on my heat shield when i first installed my intake and it would skweak (if thats how you spell it) whenever i would accelerate so make sure u have it so it is secured down good

heat shield is the whole thing around the intake/intake filter to block out the heat. so yes the cap along with the rest of the matt black metal pieces too that you supposedly had to cut to make it fit.
