CAI with m3 rep bumper
Well after reading all the back and fourth with cai vs dci vs Mr. 5 I sat down with a beer and decided to try my own intake. I have the m3 rep bumper and m3 ducts installed. So I started thinking what if I can connect a 3 inc line from the factory box inlet to the m3 duct? So i did it using Mr.5 3" ducti.g fit almost perfect into the m3 front duct then using a 3" rubber coupling to connect the 3" ducting to the factory air box inlet. I can definitely hear the turbos more and my butt dyno says YESS!!

wait, so you got rid of the factory cold air from the kidney grilles and instead have it coming solely from the bumper duct? I wonder if that is any better.
The advantage of the mr.5 intake is that it adds another inlet while keeping the factory inlet intact, increasing airflow.. |

[The faQUOTE=Brey335i;9714870]Where is the CAI pulling air from after you blocked off the openings?[/QUOTE]
I didn't block off the opening the hose you see in the picture attaches to the m3 bumper duct. The factory ducting seemed so narrow and restrictive. It feels better to me |

isn't the factory intake pretty much a cold air intake anyways, pulls air in through the kidney grille area, not much time for it to warm up...
stock box with scoops would be the same as this IMO

now you're just gonna have brake fade faster on the front driver's side if you ever take it on the track or out for spirited drives in the twisties. I would reconfigure it like Mr. 5's though if the brake performance is of no concern to you.

spoke wheels that give more air flow accross the brake assembly than stock . I haven't noticed any brake fade yet. Im just gonna try it out and do some data logs. |

Seriously!!! I can handle not as efficient but to come off and say " do it properly!! " . What if someone came on the forum said Mr 5 setup is no better than stock get a dci and do it properly? I can find 20 threads defending that . I just had an idea had some parts and put it together properly. I'll do some testing and see what comes up.

No, he's only using the flexible duct pipe, or whatever you call it, to connect the stock air box to his new M3 brake duct. Not quite the Mr.5 style intake...

So dirt and stuff is going into the engine? The stock airbox's filter don't sit that low.

The tubing connects the stock air box to the m3 duct. The in coming air still goes thru the factory box( where the JB filter is installed) thru the filter before it goes into the engine.

I doubt that will pass as much airflow as the the dual suction Mr. 5 intake, but don't let that stop you. It may still pass more flow than OEM. Test it and report back, or better yet don't listen to what anyone else says if it makes you happy. Oh, and kudos for just trying something different.
