Code Question JB+ RPM Surge Help Please
Hi everyone, hopefully I can get some help on this.
So this weekend my 08 335i threw a SES reduced engine performance code while in slow bumper to bumper traffic. The engine surged a bit and then the code was thrown. I had just gotten on it for a second on the highway before, but nothing too crazy. Anyways. I dropped the car off at the Valet and when I picked it up, SES light was gone. I've been driving the car for the past few days with nothing really popping out. My car does not start slow either. I have a JB+ running at about 80% and have not thrown a code for the few months I have had it installed. I also have a BMS dual intake. Anyways. I rented a OBD II scanner from autozone and ran the auto code detect. It popped up clean with no codes at all. Does this mean that I am clear to take the car to the dealer? (obviously after removing the JB+). Could there be a hidden code that the machine is not picking up? The car is about 2k from going out of warranty so I would like to have any issues cleared up before hand. Thanks a ton! EDIT: I googled the type of scanner that I rented. It is Actron OBD II autoscanner. I don't think it is able to read the specific dealer codes. |

Those generic OBD II scanners dont pick up all the codes, this vehicle also stores shadow codes which cant be read from generic tools.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of. Going to have to find someone with a reader or order another product. Any suggestions? I have a Mac unfortunately so I can't use the typical PC program readers from BMS etc.

Read the code using a CAN Tool, BT, or JB4. It won't be anything related to the JB+. Probably VANOS or maybe throttle body related.

Are you also running the bypass valve? SES light can come on without the bypass valve.

Anything above 75% benefits from the solenoid bypass. Heck, I ran 100% without it and it was OK, a bit laggy and jerky buy totally drivable. The BT tool is quite nice to have, even on a stock car. Back to your first issue, it might not be tune related, but you won't know it until you read the codes. Meanwhile, don't worry about it and enjoy the car.

Use bootcamp or VirtualBox. Ohh, and get rid of the JB+.

Threw 3 codes that the OBD II was able to read today. Still not able to read the first one.
Codes are P0303, P0305 and P0306. So misfire in cylinder 3, 5, and 6. Car started shaking check engine light blinking.... all the good stuff. I'm just going to take the car to dealer and see what they say. Hopefully the first one had nothing to do with the JB+. Allready removed it to go in. Leaving the intakes in. We'll see what they say.
