Installed N55 aFe CAI...
Ok... so I couldn't wait to do a dyno (june 12) to install this new aFe CAI for the n55.
Install took about 1 hour (taking my time) and fit and finish was typical aFe quality (excellent). Finished: After making sure things were buttoned up, I took it for a couple of hard runs WOT DTC disengaged.......... Maybe it's just me... but I couldn't "hear" any difference. Certainly NOT what the injen sounded like at all. No "blow-off" valve sound and to be perfectly honest... no butt dyno difference. Perhaps I was thinking this was going to actually add performance to my setup. <vent> I am thinking that my N55 Stage 1 Tune needs to NOT BE IN THE FREAKIN DEFAULT MAP 1 setting that BMS is saying I need to be in with all my mods. Just sayin'. I need to make some changes to account for the CAI or this is going up for sale. Mike or Terry - Feel free to chime in. Do I need to wait for adaptation, do I need to change to a custom map? Do I need PROcede to account for my bolt-ons? anyone? Bueller? (little frustrated that I waited nearly 5 months for this thing) </vent>

aFe posted a dyno showing gains - the gains are there. This unit also "breathes" better than the box. So... I'll have to see others as they chime in. It may be my BMS tune confusing the result.

What other mods do you have though? An intake is only support for other mods and the intake alone you will defnitely not "feel" anything

The CAI looks nice, I had the BMW Performance Intake on my 330i and I noticed nothing in sound and performance however it sure looked good. Too bad you only see it when the hood is open.

Afe looks amazing though .
Btw do you have the new dme update or the old one? That might be the reason why they are telling you not to turn up the boost. |

What's ur ambient temps like? Reason I say 'cos in colder weather there is much more of a blow off sound. Seeing u in Florida I guess this time of the year temps mut be upwards of 80-90, ur not going to hear anything until it gets a bit cooler.

at least some induction sound. with DCI for sure for the N54 - that's proven. with the N55, the MAF is such a little biatch. madmanhiker can't wait to see dyno numbers. it'll be a good way to see if afe's numbers match your before and afters. or come close to it. let us know what happens.

Also... this tune should be able to ACCOMMODATE those of use with DIFFERENT DME's (especially the freakin OE DME)! I cannot accept the fact that I am held to just 1 map because I have the OE DME. That is a bunch of crap. (As a software developer for decades now... that's crap.)

My buddy with a 135I went from a 13.4 to a 12.9 with the dme updae and added boost with the jb3. The. Procede will not run properly if you do not have the crrent dme either. Itwill shut off on you. So I don't know what research you have done regarding the n55 dme update but everyone except for treythirty5 is happy with it. Also, further research would had shown you that both terry and shiv stated that an intake fo the n55 wouldn't yield any eye popping results.
