Dealer detailing or not ?

Should the car be detailed at the dealer or not? I have to pick up my baby on 4/3/2007.

There is a good sticky at the top of this page about what to do if you decide to do the car yourself upon delivery. Good idea IMO--then you know for sure that its been done correctly and with all of the care needed to make the car look its best. Give it a shot!

Here are some pictures for you. Every one of these was washed only once; at the dealer. The Aston had *13* kilometers on it.

My advice? Do it yourself.

If there's an option to have me personally unload the car from the boat, drive the truck, and unload the car right in front of my house, I would

I would minimize the amount of contact your dealership has with your car, I suggest getting a restraining order for your car against the dealership detailers*

*also known as the dudes that could not care any less for your car

When I got my car they gave it to me really neat and since I got the paint and seat protection they applied "perma plate" to it. I am going back on the 15th for the yearly check-in and they are going to apply it. I'm gonna wash the car myself and bring it clean though. I truly don't want my car passed thru the circular rough car wash.

Ya; in their defense, every dealership porter I've ever met has been a teenager being paid minimum page to pump out 10-20 cars a day; which is a hell of a lot. It's no wonder they screw them up so badly. You get what you pay for, afterall.

yeah man never ever let the dealer touch your paint! it's a lot of work for you when you get the car to clean/clay/wax/seal it but at least you know it won't be swirled/scratched from day 1.

I used to work as a porter back in the days of High School. It was simple, take the newly bought car to the wash bay, scrape off all stickers with windex type fluid and razor blade, wash windows, wash car, rinse off and drive up front. I will NEVER EVER let any one do that to a car I just bought, after knowing what we were told to do back in the day.

When I bought my car it was too late for me to do a non dealer prep pickup since it was already on the lot but when I got the keys after signing the paperwork, there were hard water spots all over the place.
I had a stupid rattle in the dash somewhere and when it was fixed, the guys in back gave my Jet Black car a nice sandpaper wash.
Well they just detailed my car today all nice like.
Spent all day on it from what I heard from one of the porters who picked me up at work by casually talking to him.
Car came out great but I'm taking NO chances. I'm buying all the supplies I need along with a good orbital and keeping the car detailed my self from now on!

Jesus, you guys scared the crap out of me. I owned a black car some years ago and got comfortable with the whole detailing process required for black and it didn't even cross my mind to take delivery without the dealer touching it.

Once my car is on the boat I will make sure to email my CA and his Manager and make sure they are clear that I don't want the car touched except for the mechanical inspection.

Just another big for you guys at E90POST.com!!!

Good choice. I doubt many dealers will treat every car the same way since they have to do the same with so many cars. Good luck. Hope it turns out nice and shiny
