question about multiple phones with bluetooth...

will the system recogrnize more than one phone and keep it in memory (without having to pair them again?) I'm asking because me and my wife would share the car and curious if both of us would be able to use our phones..... thanks.

Yep. You'll have to select the phone to pair if you're switching back and forth. Use the iDrive to select from your recent phones in the menu.

If you have paired each phone once and both phones are in the car with bluetooth on, it will automatically pair with the phone that has an incoming call. i.e. Your phone can be paired with the car but if a call comes in on your wife's phone her phone will automatically pair with the car and the call will come through.

Disagree. Can pair up to 4 phones; the last phone paired has priority, then the 3rd, then 2nd, then 1st for pairing when you start the car. The pirority can be changed in i-drive if you have it. You could turn off bluetooth on the phone if you want, then it would default to the next one (or you may have to do a manual find me at that point). The car does not memorize the phone's phonebook; it downloads it each time you get in the car; if you add or delete a number from the phone it would have to be detected.

I kind of miss the E46 bt feature where you had a separate car phonebook with voice recognition; you would store a name and number and could recall it by saying "dial name"; it wouldn't matter what phone was paired at that point. The current bt searches for a match in your phone, the same way you can voicedial any number stored in the phone.

BTW the current Chrysler TV commercial with the little kid in the back getting a call over bluetooth and them saying the car can pair up to 7 phones could be a stretch by the ad men; don't doubt 7 phone potential, but I doubt it can handle 7 phones at a time, choosing the one that has a call.

Bottom line, what if you say dial name or number--which phone would it use for that call????

Not even close. First, pairing is a one time procedure.

If you have multiple phones that are paired, the car will connect either based on the priority/order in the list of phones (if more than one is detected at the same time) or whichever is detected first.

Once it connects, that's it.

You are correct in the priority and how phones connect to the system.

This is much older technology that is nowhere as clever as the new system which uses speech-to-text technology and requires NO training. The prev. system required extensive training.

No reason 7 couldn't be paired. Not necessarily a stretch. But the fact that it can pair to 7 phones doesn't imply anything re 7 simultaneous connections, which is not possible.

You can pair up to 4 phones and then your phone or your spouse's will be recognized upon entering the vehicle and it will then connect to the system.

You do NOT have to pair again.

True, the current tech is clever. It seems a little slower, imo, but maybe cuz it's searching the whole phone for the best match. I've only used it one day, so I'll have to give it some more time and see how accurate it is. The old system didn't require any "training"; you just had to say the name twice, I think.

re-Chrysler. I didn't mean 7 was a stretch. 7 at once was the stretch, as you said.

BTW, same priority for your phone. If you pair a BT headset to your phone after you pair it to the car and it's on, it will pair to the phone and the car won't. In fact, if you are paired to the car and turn on the headset (paired later/last), it may take over the connection. Not 100% sure of this theory.

Actually, the previous system did and does require training. Each name has to be stored and entered into the system by speaking it along with the number.

Yes, it is a one time process, but you can have multiple phones working with the car whenever each gets a call. (But not at the same time)

That's not correct at all. Try it.

Um... no you can't. Now, tell us again how the Earth is flat...

Once a phone is "connected" that is it - until you shut off the car and restart.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the priority order of paired phones can be edited under the bluetooth menu. I often carry multiple phones, and the secondary one varies a lot, so this is *extra* handy.

I have found again and again that you cannot have 1 bluetooth device sync with 2 phones, but you can get 1 phone to act like two. You can get two sim chips in a phone. Try going to ebay and look it up. Then the one bluetooth device can hook up to the one phone that acts like two. Not sure how good it works as I don't have this but have always though about it. It might help you out.

Is this dual-SIM phone like having two phonelines, hence two numbers, at home?

Yes, it would be two phone lines. It's a hack that you can install two sims into a phone like a blackberry. I'm not sure if both can ring at the same time, call from the same time etc but it might be worth looking into if you have to carry 2 cell phones. I was looking into it with my old job but than changed jobs and now only 1 cell phone.
Good luck with that.
