Just been involved in accident and would appreciate some advice...
Hi Chaps,
I'll try and keep this brief so as not to bore you with the details and would appreciate any advice you can give. I've just been involved in an accident involving my car and a Polish lorry (LHD). The incident happened in slow moving traffic (5-10mph tops). All 3 lanes chock full of traffic. I was in L2 and the lorry was in L1. As I was passing his cab this chap has obviously decided to change lanes without checking his blind spots properly and the front right corner of his cab has made contact with the rear left corner of my car. This has dented my rear quarter body panel and scuffed the rear bumper. He didn't speak English so HATOs attended the scene and extracted his various details. The Polish driver had a green card for insurance etc and I also have a witness. How should I proceed? Do I need to put this through my own insurance company or should I get a claim management company involved? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA toxicnerve |

I'd just ring my own insurance company and let them deal with it. What mileage is there to be gained by involving a management company?

Call your insurance and get them to sort it,that`s what you pay the money for
Even if you don't call them you still need to notify them if you make a claim of the other dude Or you could contact his employer and get them to pay for the repairs |

Of course if your neck/shoulders/back/leg/legs/scrotum/cock etc is aching and the car is undrivable, you might like to contact: www.Cash&Dashclaimsmanagement.co.uk

Tasking your own insurance company with the claim will register a non-fault accident against you and this will carry on your insurance if you decide to move company/insurer.
I'd check with one of the free Claims Management companies first if you have the third party details. (This has been my own experience anyway and it's a royal PITA) |

Who ever you use a "Non fault accident" will have to
be declared. Use your ins company. They will chase it all up. You did get his insurance details correct?!

Ah, hang on.
The guys on PH are saying that I should contact the UK representative of the Polish drivers insurance company. Surely I still need to notify my lot and also I will have to declare it when I come to renew as well? |

I used helphire a 3rd party management company purely for the reason they provide a like for like car or better. It seems to speed things up aswell when your hiring an expensive car..you still have to declare it to your insurance company which is a PITA and wallet come renewal time.

Why would 'you' have to contact the UK rep,let BMW insurance deal with it, why pay a fortune on premiums and do all the work yourself. Have you got a dog and you do the barking?

No dog but I have a wife but do all the cooking myself, is that what you mean?
I've told BMW insurance the full story and am letting them deal with. It's apparently going to be passed over to their "Liability Assessment Team". Just a waiting game now. This had bloody well better go down as a 100% non-fault claim and our Polish friend better have valid insurance otherwise I will be flippin' livid!!!! |

Obvious non fault, I wouldnt have involved my own insurer beyond telling them it happened (As you are obliged to do) exactly because they'll now **** around with liability assessment teams, or treat it as a fault claim until they recover the cash so give a Corsa loan car, etc etc.
Either direct to the other persons insurer or via an accident management company is the way forward, IMHO. |

Don't worry or stress yourself out. You don't need to start ringing Polish insurers yourself.

Ah Foxy! Where were you 30 minutes ago mate!
Ah well, I will let BMW Insurance deal with it for now. If things look like they're going South I will then get involved and start steering things. For now, I need a cold beer to help me unwind a bit |

damn, sorry to hear this TN.
I would let the insurance compnay deal with it....thats what you pay for!....and as its going on your "history" as non fault claim, you might aswell let them do all the work.... |

Do you think a Claim management company would serve you any better than BMW insurance?

You did the right thing getting a third party involved.
From my experience with a Polish lady who belted me there was no issue at all. I also flagged a passing copper for the same reasons and she (broken English) admitted fault to him - nice. All sorted out promptly by Admiral. I didnt feel the need to claim for a stiff neck, or ride about in a new convertable either. But many cannot resist - the nature of human greed being what it is.
