Question for guys with 335i-6 and tunes with traction issues

So i have been reading about these cars having traction issues due to the power we make with tunes. I have a 335i-6speed with JB3 and DCI and AR 3 inch down pipes.

If am rolling at about 10 MPH and floor it i dont loose traction at all with the DTC fully off with the circle around the triangle. my car does not even chirp when shifting into 2nd gear. Maybe my sumitomos really hook up well or something

I have been reading threads from other members saying that they cant get traction under WOT with these cars and i have the exact opposite issue.

just wondering how everyone elses manual cars are

Also i adjusted to try and fix the wastegate rattle i turned the rod 2 full turns tighter, and the car feels faster, im not sure if i was loosing boost some how or it was leaking but my car has much less turbo lag now and pulls way harder or i am smoking rocks and its all in my head.

Hum... Well... I don't have any tune and I chirp when doing WOT 1st to 2nd, always... Maybe you a a bit too soft with the clutch (well, in fact its probably not that good to your clutch as you might be slipping it a bit while engaging gears). I dunno... But flooring it in 1st at 10mph actually do spins the wheels WITHOUT any tune... (without xdrive). My friend 135i do spins its tires in that condition.

I had traction issues with Cobb 2.02 93 when the tires were cold or temps were below 55-ish. Now that I'm running 2.02 91 (otherwise stock) and it's hot outside, I don't really have the issues.

I will have to try the wastegate fix that you referenced. I am now getting boost leak codes occasionally. (30FC 30FF)

I was not able to chirp my wheels stock while rolling. Not even with the GIAC tune without using the clutch at least.

Now with the GIAC\DP I can be rolling in first and floor and it will spin them. In second while rolling occasionally I do spin a bit but it’s not that noticeable.

However on takeoff and while shifting from 1st to 2nd if you are aggressive enough they will spin with a tune or without. Heck I can get my tractor to spin

@OP your using Sumitomos ? I am to. These tires grip like cleats when they are warmed up. I dragged my car and 1st gear just just took advantage of those tires. They barely made noise. Here is a video on the track. I am running about 370 Wtq

Nice vids

I am missing something, i thought the 335i ran like a 13.3 stock? with 370RWHP how are you only running 13.2s

I thought my car should be 12.5 is with JB3 DCI and 3" AR DP's

maybe my car is not that fast

SHortening the rod does increase boost but I would doubt it is controlled. Not sure if the car is clever enough to know you have done this and worst case is it will run a bit lean and you might end up with a damaged engine.

I'd imagine the car will be requesting a certain boost and will now be getting too much boost for the fuel it has calculated you need.

Maybe somebody with better knowledge can explain if this is ok and I'm just too old skool and things have moved on way more than I've kept up

It can run those numbers on stock if you have 60s 70s temps and possible runing 100+ octane. The temps on the track that day was in the 80s with high humidty. BTW I was running 13.1 average not 13.2 which was just one time. 2/3 takes on the videos are 13.1. All runs done on 93 octane

Now on stock I was running 13.5 average under the same temps. It all depends on the temps and humidty.

Also I said 370 WTQ (Wheel Torque) not 370 WHP (Wheel HP). I am running about about 317 WHP. I used Torque as example for gripping with the tires we use.

now i am worried that i am making too much boost, should i turn it back 2 turns and leave it alone, or would my boost gauge read higher if i was making more boost? seems to me if the boost went up so would the boost gauge.

My theroy was some how the wastegate was leaking boost in volume not in PSI so now i have the same PSI but with more volume of it, if that makes sense

You might be ok if the shortening was to take up the slack caused by wear as per this guide http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1974

I'll be double checking mine for this too, looks like a good check to make sure you are getting full boost

No problems with traction for me either in summer going in a straight line.
Turning or wintertime, traction is a problem.

Jeez - I lose traction flooring it in 2nd at like 25mph... maybe need new tires (Ventus V12 265s)

First gear is a big loss if going from a dig after 3K RPMs

See mods in my sig - not sure on HP but I will know Friday! Going to Helix finally!

Lot of factors with traction on these cars.

Aside from power alone, tire temp, road temp, tires, and suspension all factor in.

Straight line in ambients over 80 I have traction for the 40 roll.

If temps drop below 70 I spin the 40 roll.

Also on 19 inch tires, rubberband stiff hancrap v12 Evo

17+ PSI with Methanol.

I dont have traction at 10 MPH ever.

I hook in 1st if I'm already rolling, but I chirp into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Conditions that night were terrible, I was there too. On map 0 (stock) I went 13.9@100 with a 2.0 60'. So his times are actually very respectable. My best time time on JB4 map 1 was 13.3@107 with a 2.2 60'
