0-60mph in 3.3 Seconds

So I have been running the NT05Rs for the last few weeks. I have been doing run after run at 11.4 at 130-131mph rage with 0-60 in 3.4-3.7 seconds.

As strange as it seems, I thought I was getting better times on the more mild full street NT555R tires. So I put them back on. Same exact tire pressure (26psi). And they were just as good. In fact, I think they hook up better.
My results:

0-60 in 3.3 seconds
0-100 in 7.2 seconds.
11.3 at 130.4mph with a 1.9 second 60' time.

Heres the video:

I will test again, but if I get another 11.3 run...then I would have to say these are hooking up better. Remember, these are with no warm up burnout on cold asphalt, 2nd gear launch. Could these actually work better at the track too?? Not supposed to. The NT555Rs are 100 treadwear rating and the NT05Rs are a "0" treadwear rating. Perhaps the NT05Rs are superior in warmup/burnout situations? Or perhaps the burnouts at the track has ruined the compound?? Wish I knew then answer. Also, when testing the NT05Rs, and lowering them from 26psi to 19psi, I noticed absolutely no improvement. Still 2.0 sec 60' runs.

But honestly, they felt better. I will try and confirm my findings.

Another fascinating thing I have found is that getting a good 60' time all occurs before I reach 36-37mph. I think that is amazing because I am definitely careful with the throttle in that range, and secondly, it is before the 3500rpm nitrous cut-in window also. So basically, a good qtr mile ET is determined before I even hit 37mph...the range in which you can't even give it much throttle. Would be awesome to have the kind of traction where the front end wants to yank off the ground!

Compared to my other videos, look how smooth (rather boring) the power is at the top of 2nd gear. I forgot to purge the solenoid, and therefore there was probably only a gradual boost in 2nd gear. Perhaps hurting my trap some. On the other hand, maybe this helped keep traction in check, yielding a superior 0-60 time?? I will have to do some more testing. I do believe this car has more 130mph qtr mile runs on it then just about any other 335i in the world, LOL.

To give everyone some comparison:

Supra Twin Turbo (stock) = 4.7 seconds
Lamborghini Diablo = 3.4 seconds
Ferrari 550 Maranello = 4.2 seconds
School bus fully loaded = 47.325 seconds
Dyezak 335i = 3.83 (1.82sec 60')

I've run the Advan A08's, NT555's, NT05's, INOVO, and my current tires are BFG KDW2's. My favorite tires for all out grip are the NT05's. NT05's allowed much higher levels of grip and on these KDW2's I'm able to cut 1.82sec 60' times.

I think I've gone through more sets of street tires than anyone in the past 20mo. And I think I've tested more sets of street tires than I'll ever care to test again; every time PTP (my tire/suspension people) see me they . They know they are making some more $$.

OP's problem is his tire pressure. He is WAY too low, the tires listed above are stiff sidewall tires that are not meant to flex. I found on the NT05's anything below 30psi caused a loss of grip. They got the best grip around 37psi.

These aren't drag radials...

BTW, the 1.82 60' I got on these KDW2's was on 35psi.

Very good point. I want to try the NT01 lately. How do you think they will compare to the NT05?

I'm sure they would be better than the NT05. They are a softer compound, with the same carcass structure, and the same tread face, with less tread depth for less squirm. It's the NT05...but *more*. Only problem with it is the fact it's not a street tire, you'll burn through those quick unless you have a separate set of track wheels.

Also, on the NT05's, I ran the tires for about 8mo before they lost grip. I still had plenty of tread left, but they had been heat cycled enough to get to the point where the rubber started to harden and loose overall grip.

Thanks.

Didn't realize the NT05 was a track tire until now. Interesting. Looks like I will run NT05 on the weekend now too. Pretty good tire for the price.

I thought the "R" versions of the NT555/NT05's are drag radials.

Did you run the NTO5R with "0" tread wear rating? You just may have a point with the tire pressures. I hope so! My concern was the high tire pressures would just wear the center of the tires down to nothing really fast, especially running these 275/40/17s on narrower wheels (K1s) than are recommended for that tire.

But interestingly, I believe Lost Marine, you, and perhaps Unfor? were using higher tire pressures??

Yes, the R version are drag radials. The NT05R you can use in the street though, although they have not released sizes that fit the front of the 335i yet. Soon though. Garrett was able to get me a pair, but they aren't availbe on the shelf yet.

Last time I spoke to them, they said within 2-3 weeks just for production date on all sizes, but you never know.

Pressure on that 10 run was at 36 psi.

Very interesting, all these people preaching low tire pressures, and yet all these stellar runs on higher tire pressures. Higher psi doesn't hurt the traps either! Can 26-28 psi actually be too low for 275s on K1s?

Yep. Try to raise pressure and see if things improve. I would be excited to hear your thoughts.

That seems low for a street tire it couldn't hurt to bump it up a few psi or more and see how the 60's are! that vbox is so handy

Low pressures have their place... But on the tires I have run I've gotten best results at higher pressures.

On a separate note I didn't realize you were on NT05'R' tires... I ran NT05 (no R)...so take my advice above with a grain of salt (and a Corona ).

That thing really is a Hotrod.

What's your rwhp? The mph is sick.

How do you manage to hook so well on the street?

Might be going to Fontana on July 9th, I think they are running Street Legals.
