The Money Sink
Does anyone else feel like these cars are a money sink?
i have some seriously expensive interests but nothing compares to the investment and lack of retained value as anything BMW orientated I wanted to upgrade my wheels to some 19" 313's but at £1822 + Tyres its £2600 I found an offer at £2250 but they come with RFT's and i really dont want any more RFT's (offer now sold out anyway) Then i checked out what a set of fully refurbed MV3's are going for and people are giving them away at between £400-£600 with £800 worth of "Nearly new" tyres on them, work that out.... So without tyres i would have to be giving them away??? Why didnt the idiot salesman put 19" wheels on my car when ordering the demo to the dealership for the extra £600! Then i looked into some better front brakes.... then i give up Last edited by Pandamonia; 06-13-2011 at 10:36 AM.. |

Yep- It cost me £2600 for Genuine CSL wheels and new conti's. I did get about £950 back on my originals. Nice things are expensive.

Lets face it the new wheels wont really add any value to the car when its time to sell either i think... the other option is to go for 18" 313 wheels which are only £1222 and i can use my current tyres... then see what the MV3 alloys go for on ebay |

I don't think it's just BMW's mate - all premium brand cars are expensive to maintain..or upgrade, in your case. I love the 313 alloys - but I wouldn't dare spend that sore of money on some wheels - a) because the wife would make me sleep in the darn thing and b) you could buy a little run around for that sort of money (if you wanted)

You can get some great copy wheels for 500quid or so for 4x staggered 19s from places like bmautosport. PS i'd keep your MV3 for winter tyre use and to sell on the car at trade in time, they're worth peanuts now as so many are on the used market. Always best to sell the car with original wheels on IMO, you'll get more back for your aftermarket rims separately |

Its only a matter of time.
18" 313 reps £399 for 4. (solid antracite) http://www.bmautosport.co.uk/detail.php?siteid=2080 PS I bought rep MV3s for my winters, £300 for 4. They are NICER looking than the OE ones, better colour (brighter silver) and have weathered perfectly, not a mark after 2 winters. |

they had not been around long when i bought mine in 07, plus i was 22 at the time and 27k for a demo car was a lot of money at that age!
Plus i tricked the dealer into matching a 7 month old car price when he wanted £30,500 for this demo as my spec was quite high on this car, 35k+ list price. demo was 2 months old and 1500 miles and i got it for 27k but it only come with 18" wheels and the 19" ones were not that great imo, nothing like the 313 wheels in terms of desirability. Its easy to put 19" performance wheels on a car if your one of the people who picked up a 3-4 yr old car for the price of a focus But when you have ploughed in probably 35k+ over 4 yrs and then these new fangled wheels come out that you MUST have its hard to drop £2600 to upgrade them. |
