Track Days: Morrisport, Drivings Unlimited, VCMC?
I have been to a few track day organized by BMWCCBC, who hires Drivings Unlimited to actually provide instruction for the day. They have been great. Lately however they have been plagued by cancels. Their early registration cut-off along with high price is not helping matters.
I am wondering if anyone have also been to track days orgnaized by Morrisport or VCMC, and if they can name some pros and cons? BMWCCBC is asking for $300 with max participant of 36. Morrisport is asking for $245 with max participant 32 + 40 (72????). While VCMC is asking for $200 with max participant of 40. Any insight will be great. Thanks! |

Are you referring to the BMWCCBC event on July 18?

Yes, that one is the BMWCCBC/Drivings Unlimited one, July 18th for $300
This is Morrisport, July 11th for $235 http://theinsideline.ca/ Then VCMC, July 9th for $200 http://www.vcmc.ca/forum/showthread.php?10813 I've been to the BMWCCBC Track Day for 2 times already. Wondering about the alternatives, especially when they are much cheaper... |

Hmmm... Since this is my first one, I'll see how it goes. But it would be great I guess if you decide to take the plunge and try one of these two to see how they compare. I wonder if the instruction at VCMC would be as good as the BMW one (Driving Unlimited professional instructors)? And what about Morrisport's?
Morrisport is $235 PLUS tax though, which is about $265, compared to BMW's $300, tax in. Though you do need a $40 membership for the BMW one, and I don't know if Morrisport requires anything. But for VCMC, it seems theirs is also tax in, which is a big difference, $200 vs. $300 for the same course theoretically... They also require a membership, which at $50, is about the same as BMW's $40. |

I thought they got enough people this time? (50% sign up rate)
Or they want more than that before they will declare go-ahead? BMWCCBC is much too conservative on their events compared to the others, with so many cancellation and sign-up deadline so ridiculously early that it's crazy. |

Cost wise, theyr'e almost the same, no? Morrison is $35 cheaper by my calcs, at $265. vs $300.
It'll be good to touch base after and see how each of ours went. I've never been to any others though, so I don't have a comparison. |

I went for Track Time @ Morrisport cuz I have been to Mission before. Even tho with a different car and a year gap, I didn't even shift red line the first session. The subsequent sessions I can get around the course ok, but shift point, brake point and lines are all over the place. Even had 2 mis-downshift causing massive horrible sounding ger grind...
It was still a good day. Planning to go for an AutoX later this month to re-acquaint more with my car without the pressure on the track, and then attack Mission again early Sept w/ VCMC instead this time. For Track Time, Morrisport gives 5 20min session for each driver. Total head count, First Timer and Track Timer included adds up to 60. Let me know what the arrangement is like for BMWCCBC, as I have forgotten already. |

Mission Raceway.
I drove it a few years ago in my 350Z. The track has improved since last year -- they modified the end of the long straight run so that there are no barriers to avoid. Tony Morris Jr. (Morrisport) races a modified 330 I believe and is a big BMW fan. He would be good to talk to directly if you wanted an exclusive BMW day at the track. I've had contact with Tony a few times over the past couple of years and he does organize corporate events. Last edited by DeltaBMW'r; 07-14-2011 at 05:17 PM.. |
